Please send to those interested in volunteer / internship
opportunities in Nova Scotia this summer. Thank you!
Clean Nova Scotia has two exciting volunteer internship opportunities
this summer.
1. Stream Habitat Assessment. Duration: Three weeks in May/June (exact
dates TBD; could be extended on a one day/week basis).
We are looking for a motivated, experienced candidate to work with our
Stream Restoration team to perform some intensive stream habitat
assessment. The majority of work will be field-based (walking in and
along streams). CNS is prepared to accommodate class schedules when
possible as the streams are close-by. Some training will be provided.
Responsibilities of the intern include:
• habitat assessment (aquatic and riparian vegetation, substrate and
water quality, etc.)
• invertebrate sampling and identification
• data entry (Microsoft Excel)
In return, the intern will receive the chance to develop in-depth,
hands-on knowledge of local streams, associated issues and
conservation; community relationship building; and the stream
restoration process. A letter of recommendation, based on an
evaluation by their supervisor, can be provided upon request. For more
info see: http://www.clean.ns.ca/content/Employment
2. We are looking for someone to research the current state of bait
box industry, alternatives in Nova Scotia and beyond, and
recommendations for next steps. In return, the intern will receive the
chance to develop in-depth, hands-on knowledge of local harbours,
marine waste management, a new and upcoming industry, conservation
issues, waste reduction strategies, and community relationship
building. A letter of recommendation, based on an evaluation by their
supervisor, can be provided upon request. For more info see:
