Snowshoe to Sydney's Tap Water Well Field this Saturday

Sydney, NS - What do snowshoes, protected woods and 3.3 million gallons of
water have in common? These are all parts of the Watershed Walk taking place
in Sydney this Saturday. Sydney's water system pumps 3.3 million gallons of
water a day. This water goes to Sydney, Westmount, Whitney Pier and beyond.
But, where does all the tap water come from? Join CBRM Water Utility and
ACAP Cape Breton to discover the above ground beauty of Sydney's underground
water source.

Everyone is welcome to join the 'Snowshoe to Sydney's Well Field Watershed'.
This event is the latest in the series of Watershed Walks bringing CBRM
residents into the protected areas that provide their tap water. "Winter is
a beautiful season to get outside," says Hannah MacDonald, Education Manager
at ACAP Cape Breton. "We're hoping this Walk will give people an opportunity
to get outside and snowshoe, all while learning about the source of their
tap water and the importance of its protection."

The snowshoeing takes place Saturday, February 11th from 10 am to 12 noon.
The fun begins at the Middle Lake Road gate on Ormond Crescent, which is
five minutes from Sydney on the Louisbourg Highway. Snowshoes are provided
as well as children's activities and snacks. The event is free, open to
everyone and part of the provincial "Take the Roof off Winter" campaign. In
case of inclement weather, the snow date will be Saturday, February 18th.

The Atlantic Coastal Action Program (ACAP) Cape Breton is a non-profit,
charitable community organization. Located at 582 George Street in Sydney,
this dynamic group integrates environmental, social and economic factors
into projects focusing on action, education and ecosystem planning.
