Cape Breton Job Posting: Stream Restoration Coordinator

ACAP Cape Breton is a non-profit charitable organization established in
1992. The original mission was to develop a comprehensive ecosystem
management plan for the watershed area of industrial Cape Breton. ACAP Cape
Breton has grown into a dynamic group that integrates environmental, social
and economic factors into projects focusing on action, education and
ecosystem planning.

ACAP Cape Breton is currently seeking a person with experience in stream
restoration, aquatic and terrestrial monitoring, and environmental
studies/biology to lead projects throughout the summer of 2012 in the Cape
Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM). The successful candidate will supervise
and lead a team to carry out field work including stream restoration, water
quality monitoring, and habitat assessments on multiple sites.

Start date: June 1, 2012 (pending funding). Please note this is a term
position to September 2012. 

Responsibilities

.         Responsible for all aspects of project planning and implementation

.         Leading a team to carry out stream restoration in multiple sites

.         Conducting stream restoration work (digger logs, rock deflectors,
debris removal, riparian planting, etc.)

.         Conducting habitat assessments (macroinvertebrates, plants, fish,
etc.)

.         Supervising staff and interns

.         Liaising with funders, community partners, and landowners

.         Submitting reports, timesheets, expenses

.         Following budgets

.         Using power tools

Qualifications

.         Post-secondary education in environmental studies/biology and/or
equivalent experience

.         Knowledge & experience in habitat surveys, water quality
monitoring, and stream restoration

.         Canadian Aquatic Biomonitoring Network (CABIN) protocol training
and experience are assets

.         Experience using power tools

.         Willingness to work outdoors in various conditions

.         Proven leadership experience

.         Physically fit & good communication skills

.         Ability to multi-task and prioritize

.         Current first aid & CPR or willingness to obtain 

.         Chain saw operation certification or willingness to obtain

.         Current valid driver's license with a clean driving abstract

.         Own vehicle will be considered an asset.
