Good afternoon,

>From June 14-16th, the Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC)
will hold its Annual Symposium at the Coady International Institute in
Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Looking to the Istanbul Principles on CSO
Development Effectiveness as a stepping off point, this year's symposium,
People + Power + Participation: Engaging for Effective Development, will
explore current conditions and practices in the international cooperation
sector and how organizations and individuals in Atlantic Canada can
participate in effecting global change.

You are invited to join us for the keynote speech, being held at Dennis
Hall, Coady International Institute, St. Francis Xavier University on
Thursday, June 14th at 7:00 pm. Keynote speaker, Dr. John Gaventa, Director
of the Coady International Institute and VP of International Development at
St. FX, will lead off the event with an exploration of how to engage in
effective development as global citizens. John Gaventa is a political
sociologist, educator and civil society practitioner with extensive
experience of research, training and organizational leadership across the
globe.

The Atlantic Council for International Cooperation is a coalition of
individuals, organizations, and institutions working in the Atlantic region,
which is committed to achieving global sustainability in a peaceful and
healthy environment, with social and economic justice, human dignity, and
participation for all. ACIC has more than 70 members, including national and
