Program Teaching Staff Position

The Coady International Institute is a world-class leader in community-based, citizen-driven development education. In collaboration with partners in Canada and the global South, the Institute is committed to reducing poverty and transforming societies by strengthening local economies, building resilient communities, and promoting accountable democracies.

The Institute is in the process of strengthening its work on promoting accountable democracies. How citizens make their voices heard through innovative advocacy, accountability and peacebuilding strategies that influence governments and other institutions is a critical issue around the world. Citizen engagement, grounded in power analysis, is important in all of our programs.

As a specialist in the field, the successful candidate will play a key teaching role in on and off-campus programs, lead new curriculum development and action research, and help to coordinate and build this area of work in Canada and internationally.

Requirements:

As a member of the Institute’s teaching staff, the successful candidate for position should have:
• At least 5 – 10 years experience and expertise related to citizen engagement, advocacy and/or social accountability.
• Knowledge and experience with adult education methodologies, facilitation and building new knowledge through research initiatives;
• Knowledge and experience working directly with programs in the global south. Additional experience in the Canadian context is an asset;
• A Master’s degree in a related area of study or equivalent; further qualifications are an asset;
• Experience in developing and managing educational programs;
• Capacity for networking and managing collaborative partnerships, and for working with an inter-disciplinary and culturally diverse team;
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and organizational skills;
• Strong research, analytical and writing skills;
• Ability to work independently while ensuring that outcomes are met;
• Ability to travel internationally;

Responsibilities: 
• Facilitate educational programs, develop curricula and conduct action research on citizen engagement, advocacy and social accountability;
• Develop and coordinate special projects and initiatives at Coady in this field, including working with partners, donors and participants to plan, implement and evaluate programs;
• Contribute to the life of Coady and Coady programs as a mentor, advisor and colleague.

This position is a full time permanent position located at the Coady International Institute on the campus of St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, with potential for travel within North America and overseas. The position is subject to the terms and conditions of Section 6 of the StFX AUT Collective Agreement (Link). Rank and Salary will be commensurate with applicant’s qualifications and experience.
