[Sust-mar] Preparing for Flooding in Tantramar

**A public session on the state of our dykes, flood risk and how to prepare**

Sackville – The Tantramar region has witnessed flooding in the not so distant past and will again in the future. Local residents want to know more about flooding issues and what they can do to stay safe. EOS Eco-Energy Inc. and the Tantramar Climate Change Adaptation Collaborative are hosting an information session on Saturday, November 15th, 2014 about our dykes, storm scenarios, flood risk and how to prepare.  The event is open to residents on both the New Brunswick and Nova Scotia sides of the Tantramar region. The event, taking place at the Marshlands Inn at 55 Bridge St, Sackville, is free to attend and includes lunch.  The New Brunswick and Nova Scotia Departments of Agriculture will present on the state of the dykes in the region, the Southeast Regional Planning Commission and Mount Allison University will discuss storm scenarios and flood risks, and the Cumberland County Emergency Measures Organization will explain how residents can prepare for flood events and how emergency response works. There will also be prizes such as a 72 Hour Emergency kit to win and tour of the Dixon Island Dyke in Sackville.  A trade show including organizations such as EOS, Ducks Unlimited, the Red Cross, New Brunswick Climate Change Secretariat, the Nova Scotia Department of Environment, Town of Sackville and others will offer a wealth of information. The event runs from 10am to 2pm, with doors open at 9:30am for registration and the Trade Show. Spaces are limited, please pre-register with EOS before November 7th.
