Since 2000, ACORN has been the key organization for information on organic agriculture, eating organics, and connecting all the parts together in Atlantic Canada. From seed to farmer to consumer, ACORN works to bring the whole picture together making food choices healthier and more environmentally responsible. ACORN hosts many events, including our major annual Organic Conference and Trade Show (the Conference), this year taking place from November 23-25 in Charlottetown, PEI.
This position will primarily support event registration and administration for the Conference. The successful candidate will take a lead role in supporting conference attendees and managing a comprehensive registration system for the Conference, which can have as many as 500 participants. The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to an efficient, productive, and friendly work environment at ACORN.
Specific tasks will include:
Conference registration coordination manage online and phone registration for the Conference, from pre-registration to on-site registration desk management.*
Administrative support answering telephones, responding to conference and related membership inquiries, and assisting with minor financial activities/administrative duties of the Executive Director
Conference web updating and database management maintaining ACORN conference website and corresponding membership database with current information.
Support outreach and promotion efforts for the ACORN Conference
*Please note that this will require the candidate to be available for additional hours the week prior to the conference and the week of the conference.
In addition, the successful candidate will also assist the Executive Director with a limited number of general administrative duties including:
General event registration coordination for smaller events
General website updating (including updating classified ads, member profiles and event listings)
Other administrative tasks as needed to assist ACORNs team
Event coordination/registration experience
Experience working in a professional office environment
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Effective team player who also works well independently
Highly organized with an eye for detail
Experience with updating websites, and member database management a strong asset
Experience with Macintosh computers and programs considered an asset
Bilingualism a strong asset
Approximately 25 hours/week with more leading up to the November conference.
The position will begin as a 3-month contract, with possibility of extension.
Start date September 27th or as soon as possible. The successful candidate will work from ACORNs office in Sackville, NB.
