Position: Acadian Forest Restoration and Biodiversity Apprentice
Type: summer job / summer student position

Term: This is a full-time, 16 week position.
The Acadian Forest Region is a temperate broadleaf and mixed forest ecoregion. It is characterised by 32 native tree species and varied geomorphology including the hills, mountains, and plateaus of New England in the northeast United States, Quebec, and the Maritime Provinces of eastern Canada. After many years of over-harvesting by previous landowners, we are actively preserving and restoring the Acadian forest on our 98 acre property. You will be actively cataloguing and helping to protect this vital habitat.
You are an excited, capable, and sustainability-minded individual. You are organized and efficient, and demonstrate excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills. However, you are also able to work independently and show remarkable drive and initiative. You are able to meet deadlines under pressure and produce deliverables outlined by your supervisor.
On-site Acadian Forest, Wetlands, and Biodiversity demonstration development, in conjunction with FBC staff and external partners
On-site monitoring and cataloguing of species
Hands-on restoration of terrestrial and aquatic habitat
Development of biodiversity education materials
Facilitating public events and delivering educational materials to the public
Guided tours of the FBC demonstration site to visitors
The AFRB Apprentice will work closely with and report directly to the Biodiversity Coordinator.
Skills and Job Requirements:
Post-secondary education related to: science, biology, forestry, environmental studies is preferred.
Bilingualism (English and French) is required.
First Aid and CPR-C training is an asset.
Summer apprentices must be able to travel to Glassville, NB from Fredericton, NB as necessary throughout the contract period.
Applicants must have been enrolled in full-time studies at a post-secondary educational institution for the term immediately preceding their application (Winter 2016) and must be intending to return to full-time studies at an educational institution in the term immediately following the end of the contract (Fall 2016).
