Species at Risk Outreach Biologist - Southeastern NB
Bird Studies Canada (BSC) is seeking candidates to apply for Piping Plover Stewardship Assistant position starting 30 May 2016 (10-11 weeks @$13.00/hr to $13.75/hr depending on experience).
This position will be based out of Bouctouche, NB and offers an outstanding opportunity to gain skills in species at risk recovery, coastal bird monitoring, re-sighting of banded birds and stewardship through BSCs SE NB Piping Plover Project. There will be a unique mix of community outreach and engagement, field biology, youth education, collaboration and networking with volunteers and biologists all on some of New Brunswicks most beautiful beaches.
Primary duties:
Conduct beach surveys to identify threats to breeding Piping Plover and beach habitat, assist in the re-sighting of banded Piping Plovers and monitor breeding Piping Plovers, nests and chicks;
Protect beach breeding habitat from disturbance;
Conduct educational outreach activities that improve awareness about endangered Piping Plovers, coastal ecosystems and stewardship practices and build community support for healthy coastal wildlife;
Collect data on other beach wildlife and on human-use of beaches;
Assist with data entry;
Assist in the coordination and training of volunteers;
Position Requirements:
You must be a current student (under 30 years of age) and returning to full-time studies.
Access to personal vehicle (mileage to field sites will be reimbursed at $0.45/km).
Excellent French and English speaking skills.
Excellent people skills with the ability to approach and communicate with the public in friendly and clear manner.
Willingness to work long days and weekends in the field as needed.
Ability to walk on sand carrying heavy equipment.
Ability to work independently and with a team.
Knowledge and interest in Piping Plovers and their threats in Eastern Canada.
Position Assets:
Local knowledge of southeastern NB beaches and coastal communities.
Knowledge of Atlantic Canada coastal ecosystems and shorebirds.
Experience working with species at risk and in education or communication.
Standard First-Aid (current certification or obtained by start date).

Étude doiseaux Canada (EOC) recherche des candidats pour un poste dassistant de programme dintendance du pluvier siffleur au sud est du NB qui débutera le 30 mai 2016 (10-11 semaines à 13, 00$/h - 13, 75$/h tout dépendant de votre expérience).
Le poste sera basé à Bouctouche, NB et sera une opportunité dacquérir des connaissances sur le rétablissement des espèces en péril et la conservation de lhabitat côtier du pluvier siffleur. Le programme pluvier siffleur du SE NB de EOC est très varié et inclue de la recherche sur le terrain ainsi que des programmes éducatifs pour les jeunes et le public. Le programme travaille avec une variété de biologiste et de bénévoles pour la protection du pluvier siffleur sur les plus belles plages du SE du NB
Tâches
Effectuer des inventaires de plages pour identifier des menaces au pluvier siffleur et lhabitat côtier et faire un suivi de la nidification ainsi que signaler et enregistrer les pluviers bagués. Faire la protection de lhabitat et des nids.
Des activités éducatives sur le pluvier siffleur afin daccroitre la connaissance et la capacité dintendance des plages des communautés.
Collecte de données sur lutilisation des plages par les humains et la faune
Entrer de données
Support et entrainment des bénévoles
Compétences requises :
Le poste est pour un étudiant (sous lâge de 30 ans) qui retourne aux études à temps plein
Bilingue (français et Anglais)
Avoir de la facilité à approcher et à communiquer avec les gens clairement et de façon amicale
Capable de travailler occasionnellement de longues journées et la fin de semaine
Une bonne forme physique pour la marche sur le sable avec de léquipement
Capacité de travailler seul et en équipe
Accès à un véhicule (le kilométrage sera remboursé à $0.45/km)
Une connaissance sur le pluvier siffleur
Atout pour lemploi:
Une connaissance des plages et des communautés côtières du sud est du NB
Une connaissance sur les habitats côtiers du Canada Atlantique
De lexpérience avec les espèces en périls et en éducation ou communication.
Cours de premiers soins valide
