Hello,
Are you aware of an upcoming decision by the Minister of Agriculture to
permit Ontario beehives to be trucked to NS for pollination this season?
Ontario has small hive beetle, and we do NOT want that pest here! In
addition, it seems crazy for the government to fund pollination expansion
in this province and then allow special permits for beekeepers in other
(especially "pest-ier") jurisdictions to fill NS pollination
contracts....even though the NS Beekeepers Association says there are
clearly enough hives in NS to do the job.
Re. Small Hive Beetle -- these hive pests harass the bees, and their
maggots slime the honey, thus ruining it. Small-scale beekeepers such as
ourselves will be the most negatively impacted by the introduction of the
beetle.
I've started an Avaaz petition. The language is a bit sensationalist but I
was trying to be factual + click-baity at the same time.
Please sign and share!! We will need a lot of signatures and shares if
there is any hope to stop the importation. Share on Facebook and email.

Thanks so much,
