Position: Green Schools Nova Scotia Engagement Officer

Thinkwell Shift (Shift) is a behavior change company that specializes in resource conservation. We create strategies that encourage people to make lasting changes in their daily lives to conserve resources such as water, energy, and waste. In order to facilitate behaviour change, we connect with customers using various tactics to guide their path. Shift is looking for customer service orientated individuals who are looking for a challenge.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
Reporting to the Project Coordinator, the Engagement Officer will work with the team of Engagement Officers around the province who work with schools and communities.
Participate in the development and deployment of the Green Schools NS program for the 2017-18.
Work to actively include new schools in the Green Schools community, and engage schools that have participated in the program in the past.
Introduce program goals, logistics, and resources to new and returning schools.
Provide day-to-day advice, support, and mentorship to participating schools throughout the school year.
In-person and virtual engagements with individuals about energy and energy efficiency
In-person community engagements at Libraries. Farmers Markets or other settings.
Forge, maintain, and strengthen relationships with the school community (students, teachers, administrators, volunteers, parents), partner organizations, and other stakeholders.
Guide individuals through learning about environmental issues with a special focus on energy issues.
Participate in program team meetings as required.
Participate in the identification, composition, and dissemination of program success stories.
Contribute to the development of web, social media, and printed content for the program.
Seize all relevant opportunities to build support and excitement for the program.
Help implement baseline and end-of-year surveys and other evaluation methods.
Keep accurate records of program information.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Degree in Education, Environmental Management/Studies, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Experience working with children and youth (elementary, junior, and/or senior high school students) in a school setting and/or programming capacity.
Strong time management, planning, communication, writing, and interpersonal skills. Experience working independently.
Personal commitment to leading a sustainable lifestyle preferred; expertise in environmental studies would be an asset.
Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License, access to a safe and reliable vehicle, and ability to travel throughout the province as required.
Experience delivering youth programs with an environmental focus would be considered an asset.
Knowledge of the Nova Scotia school system and/or curriculum outcomes and lesson plan development would be considered an asset.
Knowledge of energy issues and energy efficiency is considered an asset.
Public speaking and facilitation skills.
Familiarity with Google Suite of tools is considered an asset, for example Hangouts and Drive.
Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.
Normal working hours would be approximately Monday to Friday, 8:30-4:30pm, with some availability required on evenings and weekends. The position available is for the Halifax Region. Successful candidates must demonstrate a willingness to travel throughout the province as required. A criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector check, will be required before beginning work in schools.
COMPENSATION
Hourly rate: $18/hr at 35 hours per week. 10 month contract position.
