Hello All! Just a quick message to inform you of some upcoming events we have at The Deanery Project in Ship Harbour:

The Deanery Project is excited to offer a full weekend of backyard forestry education and skill building.

Author and Forest Educator Jamie Simpson will introduce skills and reforestation practices for Nova Scotia’s forests. The workshop will include: Identification of common trees & plants, tools & techniques for working with small woodlots, basic ecology and low impact forestry management, how to increase wildlife habitat.

Registration is $190, including accommodation and meals.

Build your own Stringed Instrument: February 18th-19th.

Join us for an exciting weekend of wood crafting and musical skill building. The workshop, suitable for all ages and skill levels will be taught by Paul Schwartz, and held at The Deanery Project.

Participants will learn to design, build, tune and play a (1, 3, or 4) stringed instrument of their choice, with Band Practice following on Sunday.

Snowshoe Hike & Open House: February 5th (Hike at 10:30am, Open house to begin at 1:00pm)

If you’ve never taken the time to explore the 4.5km of trails here at The Deanery, or are looking to get some face time with Nova Scotian nature, then join us on Sunday, February 5th for a snowshoe hike. A recent addition to the equipment cupboard at The Deanery are several beautiful new pairs of snowshoes, donated to us by the Eastern Shore Musquodoboit Community Health Board. These snowshoes are always available for your use- however, selection is limited, so if you’re planning on wearing a pair for your trek with us, please send us a message and let us know!

In the afternoon we’ll be hosting our monthly open house, where guests have the opportunity to explore The Deanery grounds, learn a little more about what we do here, and how you can get involved.
