The terms of employment are as follows:
• Position Title: Outreach Coordinator
• Start Date: June 2, 2017
• Duration: 10 -12 weeks
• Remuneration: $15/ hour
• Hours per Week: Maximum 35 hours per week
• Expenses: You will be reimbursed for eligible business expenses, as approved by the Executive Committee.
• Professional Development: You may be expected to participate in continuing professional development specific to membership development. Expenses related to this must be approved by the Board of Directors.
• Termination Notice: A minimum of eight 3 weeks notice is required on either the part of the Membership Coordinator or the Board of Directors to terminate your position as Membership Coordinator, except in the case of gross misconduct.

Description of Employment:

This is a full time contract position paid hourly, with payment occurring once per month. The approximate workload is 35 hours/week and candidate must be flexible to work evenings and weekends. The hourly contract fee is $15 per hour.

Reporting to the Executive Director weekly, the Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing outreach events, tabling at community events, planning events, administering Bike Valet, engaging with the community and providing regular updates including reporting on performance metrics. The Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for supervising volunteers at outreach tables with the support of the Executive Director or Committees of the Board of Directors.

Position Summary:

The Outreach Coordinator must:
• own and be able to ride a bicycle
• hold a valid driver’s license
• be capable of riding a bicycle and towing a trailer up to 75 lbs
• own a laptop computer on which the HCC work will be completed
• own a cellular telephone that can be used for HCC work
• Be between 18 and 30 years of age
• Be registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year
• Will be returning to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year
• Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident
• Be legally entitled to work per relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.

Relevant Experience
• Sales/retail
• Degree in management, business, marketing, planning, health promotions, or sustainability
• Outreach, facilitation, or brand ambassador
• Event planning and execution

Core Competencies
• Personable, positive, energetic and self-motivated
• Experience working with diversity of staff and stakeholders, with knowledge of cultural competence, diversity and social inclusion
• Strong organizational & time management skills
• Passion for cycling, sustainability, and/or community building

Job Responsibilities
• Effectively communicate the Halifax cycling Coalition’s mission, vision, and programs at events
• Organize outreach tables
• Supervise volunteers at events
• Plan, coordinate and evaluate small outreach events
• Prepare inventory materials and resources needed for each event
• Coordinate volunteers with assistance from staff
• Prepare information for reports for each event to be utilized for future planning
• Administer Bike Valet program
• Engage community through surveys, questionnaires, and media
• Grow Halifax Cycling Coalition membership through outreach and community events
• Represent Halifax Cycling Coalition at events and engagements and be an ambassador for the organization and for cycling in our community
• Duties and responsibilities to be expanded upon mutual agreement of both parties
