Position: Market Manager
Organization: Halifax Brewery Farmers' Market
Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia

The Board of Directors of the Halifax Brewery Farmers' Market Cooperative is hiring a Market Manager to coordinate the long-standing Saturday morning farmers' market, to lead a new era of marketing and customer engagement for the market and to successfully pursue emerging opportunities for the market under the leadership of the Board.

Market Staff Position Description:

15 hours per week (6/7 am -2 pm on Saturday plus 8 hours through the week)
$20 per hour

Market Day Duties to Include:
• putting out marketing signage, setting up seating areas, helping vendors move their tables, setting up market info booth, ensuring clean up and proper waste management systems are working;
• market event planning;
• on-site logistical coordination including delegating spaces to new vendors;
• administration and managing basic market finances including collecting market rent;
• live marketing through social media as well as capturing photos and info about product, vendors, etc for later marketing/social media use (includes photography);
• customer service, being the public face of the market during hours, tending the market info booth, able to assist both customers and vendors, creative conflict and problem-solving.

Qualifications/Skills:

Coordination in a busy environment (event management, trouble-shooting, etc), customer service, physical requirement (moving market tables), social media marketing and photography.

Non Market Day Duties:
• marketing including management of market social media accounts and occasional conventional media relations;
• communications including answering market emails and phone calls (keeping market cell phone), responding to new vendor inquiries and working towards vendor recruitment;
• administration tasks including bank deposits;
• project coordination as opportunities arise;
• some special event coordination in collaboration with the board and market vendors; -website updates

Qualifications/Skills:

Administration, communication, marketing, time management, project coordination, grant writing, event planning and logistics, both self-directed work and collaboration

Additional Information:

We are looking for someone who is passionate about food and especially locally produced food. Should have an awareness of local food politics and farmer's market scene in Nova Scotia and especially Halifax. We would love to hear about your experiences working with a small scale food business or farmers' market and/ or the non-profit sector. We are a volunteer-run cooperative farmers' market at the moment and want the right person to step in and help us grow and transition to a larger but still high-integrity farmer-run food and craft market, as the old Brewery building goes through a revitalization. We are looking for someone who has experience and a forte in marketing for small business and a good eye for social media content. The market staff person must also enjoy the company and energy of very small scale entrepreneurs who are a mix of farmers, craft artisans and food producers. Holding this position will entail working closely with the board of directors and participating in mon
 thly meetings.

This is a part-time job which requires weekly Saturday morning hours on site as well as eight hours of self-directed work throughout the week from a home office.

As the market grows there will be increased needs on the staff position and accordingly, wage increases. Commision for vendor recruitment possible.
