This position is funded through the Agriculture and AgriFood Canadas (AAFC) Youth Green Jobs Initiative. To qualify, you must:
Be a Canadian post-secondary graduate;
Be 30 years or younger at the start of the internship
Not have participated in any other Youth Employment Strategy programs (ie. Career Focus);
Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
Job Description:
The Events and Administration Assistant will work with ACORN staff to gain skills and knowledge to support the organic agricultural industry in a non-profit capacity in Atlantic Canada.
Working with the Events Coordinator, the successful candidate will provide support in coordinating aspects of each of our key program events: the ACORN Annual Conference (the largest agricultural conference in Eastern Canada), the ACORN AGM and Speaker Series, our Winter Webinar Series, Winter Online Conference, and our Annual Organic Forums.
Programming will include workshops for farmers of all experience-levels, scales, and commodities to introduce and encourage organic production techniques across agriculture. In collaboration with the supervisor, they will work with committees and board members to identify training and event priorities, confirm speakers, and coordinate volunteers.
This position will also provide administration support to ACORNs Executive Director, gaining skills and experience in various areas of nonprofit management, such as web site development, coordinating event registrations, membership management, and broader budget and financial development.
Skills & Qualifications
Strong interest in organic food and agriculture
Self starter and effective team player who also works well independently
Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and French
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Event coordination experience
Experience with Macs would be considered an asset
Job Details:
Full-time contract (Tuesday, May 1, 2018 - March 31, 2019)
37.5 hours/week with a biweekly salary of $1000-$1125, commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will work out of ACORNs office in Sackville, NB.
