Position: Sea Turtle Educational Outreach Coordinator

Located on the Halifax Waterfront boardwalk, the Canadian Sea Turtle Centre (CSTC) is the only marine turtle educational outreach institution in Canada. The CSTC's mandate is to educate all members of the general public about endangered sea turtles and the need to care for the marine environment in Atlantic Canada and worldwide, as well as about the critical and innovative role both Canadian scientists and Nova Scotia’s coastal community members have played in sea turtle conservation worldwide. The CSTC is dedicated to working to meet the needs of each of its guests and welcomes everyone without prejudice.

The Sea Turtle Educational Outreach Coordinator position combines experience in science and environmental public education, as well as in retail, tourism, program development and employee supervision. The sea turtle educational outreach coordinator will help develop environmental education programs for both the Canadian Sea Turtle Centre and for the Canadian Sea Turtle Network's new Sea Turtle Environmental Day Camp, which will run for two weeks in August. The coordinator will help oversee the activities of the Canadian Sea Turtle Centre, including managing inventory for the small store and acting as an educational advisor and resource for the Sea Turtle Centre Interns. The coordinator will also participate as an occasional staff member at the Centre, and will lead the weekly Oceans Explorers club.

Applicants must be confident public speakers and have experience working with children and young people. Applicants must have a demonstrated interest in marine biology and the environment. The ideal candidate has training and/or experience in education and has past experience in leadership roles. Experience in a retail environment is an asset. A valid driver’s license is required. The coordinator is required to work Saturdays throughout the months of July and August. Because the CSTC is a tourist attraction in a high-traffic location, it is paramount that the Coordinator is an excellent representative not only for the CSTC, but also for Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Canada.

Wage: $14/hour for 35h/week
Dates: May 7 - August 31
