Position: Base Manager
Reports to: Operations Manager
Company: East Coast Outfitters
Location: Lower Prospect, 30 mins from Halifax, Nova Scotia

Job Summary: 

The Base Manager is responsible for the daily operations of East Coast Outfitters (ECO). They are the front line of ECO and a must serve customers by providing quality product and service information and customer care.

Duties/Responsibilities:
• Provide quality customer service while interacting with all ECO clients
• Answer client questions and inquires and update schedule with new bookings
• Provide support for all Sea Kayaking tours
• Maintain all ECO buildings in a clean and professional way
• Maintain all ECO equipment in a clean and professional way
• Assist all clients in preparing for their tour or rental
• Ensure that all tours, rentals, and/or events operate safely and are successful
• Represent ECO in a way that adheres to the mission, vision and values of the business
• Have knowledge of all ECO programs and products so as to provide customers with options and recommendations to best suit their needs
• Assist with and/or coordinate all other daily events

Skills and qualifications:

Customer Service, Product Knowledge, Quality Focus, Problem Solving, Documentation Skills, Listening, Phone Skills, Resolving Conflict, Analyzing Information, Multi-tasking, Current First Aid and CPR an asset, knowledge of Kayaking and Kayaking equipment an asset

Education and experience:

Working towards or possess a Degree or Diploma in Tourism/Hospitality/ Outdoor Recreation Management or any past experience working in a customer service position.

Specific duties/responsibilities:

Support the daily on shore base operations by: 
• Opening the base, answering the phone and placing bookings in the calendar, checking all phones messages and writing down messages, preparing weather and tide information board, opening and setting up boathouse for the day.
• Greeting clients as they arrive for trips, helping them fill out their registration waiver forms and introducing them to their assigned guides for the day.
• Helping the guides launch small and large groups from the wharf. This includes supporting the guides and individual clients by properly fitting all clients with gear, foot pedals and demonstrating safety equipment. You must adjust style and approach based on varied client base. (For example: children, seniors, persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities with specific cultural practices)
• Receiving small and large trips as they return back to base by helping clients off the water, cleaning boats and gear properly and storing boats properly on racks.
• Providing support to Operations Manager and staff with large group/corporate tours. During these tours, in addition to the above mentioned tasks, you will prepare the food packages for the groups and help with the clean-up. They will also help the Operations Manager set up and tear down the eating area for trip.

Other duties include: assisting the Operations Manager with gear maintenance and inventory and helping renters on the water. In addition to providing sea kayaking tours, East Coast Outfitters also provides rental services where a guide is not provided. In these cases, the Base Manager will help the clients get ready to launch from the wharf by properly fitting all clients with gear, foot pedals, demonstrating safety equipment and helping them launch from base. ECO has other functions on site: concerts, dinning functions. The Base manager will either lead or assist with these special events.

Hours per week: 30 hours, up to 40 plus hours between June to September.

Anticipated start date: May 15, 2019
