JOB POSTING

Position: Communications/Media Lead
Organization: Efficiency Canada
Location: Relocation may not be necessary, as Efficiency Canada has adopted a cloud-based coordination and management approach that operates across Canada. We also encourage and support a flexible work environment. Preference will be given to candidates based in Ottawa or Toronto.

Who is Efficiency Canada?

Efficiency Canada is the national voice for an energy efficient economy. Efficiency is a low-cost and abundant energy resource that must become top of mind amongst policymakers and consumers for Canada to move to a low carbon economy.

Housed at Carleton University, part advocacy organization, part think-tank, part data-driven start-up, Efficiency Canada advocates to make our country a global leader in energy efficiency. We convene people from across Canada’s economy to work together to advance policies required to take full advantage of energy efficiency. And we communicate the best research out there to build a more productive economy, sustainable environment, and better life for Canadians.

Our goal is to make energy efficiency – through an economic lens – top of mind for policy makers. To do that, we aim to make the complex, simple; the story, compelling; the stakeholders, heroes; the mundane, exciting.

We are looking for the BEST people to help achieve that goal.

If you are passionate about Canada’s energy transition, you could be part of building a new organization to accelerate energy efficiency. If you’re someone “on the verge” and ready to step into a leadership role, come join us!

We are building a fun, mission-oriented, and collaborative culture. There will be opportunities to learn, develop, and strategize. You will be part of the team at Efficiency Canada, and an extended network of sustainable energy allies and experts.

What do we want you to do?

The Communications and Media Relations Lead will perform the critical task of explaining the benefits of energy efficiency to the general public and policymakers. While energy efficiency is often communicated through a ‘savings’ lens, there is an opportunity to augment the message through an economic lens. In addition, benefits such as greenhouse gas reductions, poverty alleviation and health improvements can contribute to the overall ‘why efficiency’ message. Despite checking off a multitude of benefits, energy efficiency remains less visible than other sustainable energy solutions, which makes communicating challenging. Do you think that you are up for this challenge? We are looking for someone excited by this opportunity and can communicate a targeted message to several different audiences.

The Communications and Media Relations Lead will develop a strategy to communicate to the media, policymakers and Efficiency Canada Allies. Working closely with the rest of the team we will make energy efficiency a top of mind issue and mobilize energy efficiency constituencies.

The Communications and Media Relations Lead will be responsible for leading our strategies for media, social media and website (i.e. blog schedule), oversee campaign tactics, track media mentions, evaluate analytics and will work with the team to mobilize the energy efficiency industry.

Qualifications and skills required
• An undergraduate degree and at least five years of professional experience in communications, media relations or journalism.
• Experience in communications and marketing strategy including traditional and digital.
• Strong track record of media placement and an extensive media network.
• Demonstrated experience tackling complex issues and distilling into simple campaigns.
• Proven time management skills and experience juggling competing deadlines and priorities.
• Passionate commitment to the mission and objectives of Efficiency Canada.
• Experience with content management systems (WordPress), mailing services (Mailchimp), and CRM software is an asset.
• Public policy experience is an asset.
• Bilingualism (English/French) is preferred.

Application deadline

Deadline for application is midnight, February 10, 2019 (EST). Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply earlier and up until the deadline.

Relocation may not be necessary, as Efficiency Canada has adopted a cloud-based coordination and management approach that operates across Canada. We also encourage and support a flexible work environment. Preference will be given to candidates based in Ottawa or Toronto.

Compensation

Efficiency Canada offers a competitive non-profit salary, vacation, and health benefits package. This position has the potential for advancement.
