Hawthorn Hill Academy needs a Waldweg Forest School Instructor!

Gig: Bilingual Forest School Instructor
Pay: Starting at 20$/hour
When: Spring 2019 (minimum 3 hours a week)
Where: 97 Scotch Settlement Rd, Irishtown / Moncton NB.

About us:

What exactly do we do? We play, we get dirty, and we do it all outside.

With 3 successful years of running camps from Riverview, Waldweg Forest School picked up its roots and transplanted itself a little more North of Moncton. Now under the growing canopy of its parent company Hawthorn Hill Academy, Waldweg is looking for new instructors to take the mantle and run their own forest school from its new location!

We believe that being a good Forest School Instructor is more than the ability to make a fire and dress warm. It’s more than patience for putting mittens on cold hands and more than a love of teaching. Being a good Forest School Instructor is being your best, true self.

Not Mr. Rogers, Fred Penner or your favorite middle school teacher. You. If we can truly connect to ourselves and be at our best, we become more than teachers. We become models of bravery, risk taking and prudence. We show patience, kindness, love and become stewards of the forest. We model what play means to us, and become the Protectors of Play.

We’re looking for an outstanding, outdoorsy, and outgoing individual who is motivated to help kids learn about the world through their whole beings — head, heart, and hands. This person is a true Protector of Play and thrives outside during all weather and seasons. They’re great with kids, comfortable outside, and willing to get dirty. Are you reading a description of yourself right now? Get at us!

Create your own hours! This is a flexible role based on your availably and student registration. The classes must stay consistent but a minimal of 3 hours a week is needed per class. Some evening and weekend meetings will also be needed (in person or via zoom).

• Create a class based on availability and student involvement;
• Provide a safe site and atmosphere for students;
• Daily site and risk assessments;
• Help organize and run community events and celebrations;
• Provide board of directors with monthly updates;
• Collect photos and videos for marketing and social media outreach.

Knowledge & Skills:
• Stellar communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues (in both official languages);
• Valid driver's license and access to vehicle;
• First Aid training
• Comfort and capability in the forest in all weather conditions;
• Computer skills and basic knowledge/experience using various social media and interactive tools.

• Excellent writing skills in both official languages;
