Applied Energy Research - Nova Scotia Community College

Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

Timeline: November 12, 2019 to January 31, 2020 (with possibility of extension)

Work hours: Up to 35 hours per week (negotiable according to your availability)

Salary range: $18 to $28 per hour, depending on training and experience

Location: Based at NSCC Ivany Campus, with flexible options to work from elsewhere some of the time.

Opportunity: Work on our Community Solar Database Project, to make solar energy production visible to researchers and the public in Nova Scotia.

Goal: With our team, help develop a web-based interface that displays solar electricity production data for research and public education.

Tasks:
• Work to add and manage new datasets to existing relational (MySQL) and non-relational databases (MongoDB).
• Complete the development of a web-interface (Spring and Hibernate) with three functionalities:
• Allow solar PV system owners to add their system data to the database automatically
• Publish graphics generated from the database to show Nova Scotians real data about solar electricity production in our province.
• Allow users to see forecasted solar electricity production data for the next day or two ahead.
• Utilize Java oriented products and tools in this work, such as Maven, Java 8 with Oracle JDK and Open JDK, Spring with Hibernate, Apache Tomcat, SpringMVC and Eclipse IDE.

Requirements: Training and experience with data-centred website development using at least some of the tools listed above. Proven examples of work completed to date.

Much work has already been completed on this project and it is well documented. Join a team of three persons working together to continue the development process with guidance from our lead investigator.
