Position: Conservation Project Coordinator
Organization: Hammond River Angling Association

The Hammond River Angling Association is looking for a full-time Conservation Project Coordinator to work with our team on a variety of projects within the Hammond River Watershed.
About HRAA:
The Hammond River Angling Associations (HRAA) mandate is to protect and preserve the Hammond River watershed through education, conservation and community interaction. The HRAA has engaged in many Atlantic salmon habitat and population enhancement programs since its inception. Some of these programs include stocking fish, electrofishing for juvenile salmon, salmon spawning assessments, wetland restoration projects and bank stabilization by tree planting. The HRAA also runs an environmental summer camp, a school education program and community education volunteer activities to promote watershed stewardship.

The Position:
HRAA is seeking an energetic and dynamic Conservation Project Coordinator interested in watershed conservation, community outreach and environmental conservation.
We are seeking a results-oriented person, with a deep understanding of the scientific process, field data collection and analysis. This person will have the ability to identify clear goals and objectives for HRAA Science programs with the guidance of the Center Manager. Applicants should have a strong interest in ecological research, and be happy to spend many hours in the field under variable conditions.
The successful candidate will work on a variety of projects in the Hammond River Watershed including wetland monitoring, riparian restoration, water quality testing and fish population assessments. Tasks may include mapping wetlands, analyzing wetland function, tree-planting, assistance with electrofishing, tagging fish, and site preparation for wetland restoration efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Conservation Center Manager, the Conservation Project Coordinator will be responsible for leading the development, and execution of projects involving:
Conducting field surveys, to inform population health through processing collected data;
Management of ongoing science programs based on Classification work including water quality sampling; stream habitat research; ongoing riparian restoration; bank stabilizations and sedimentation studies;
Development of new projects based on HRAA goals and objectives;
Report and grant writing;
Qualifications:
A college diploma or university degree in biology, environmental studies/science, planning or related discipline.
Exemplary organization, planning, communication (written and oral), and project management skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills including experience working tactfully with colleagues, and communicating with stakeholders in public, private and not-for-profit sectors.
Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail, be self-motivated, and display superior time management skills.
Ability to develop and maintain a dynamic work plan, and meet fixed deadlines.
Problem-solving skills; ability to make decisions, sound judgment.
Above average skills in Excel, Outlook and Word.
Experience working with ArcGIS considered an asset.
Valid Drivers license and vehicle with the ability to travel within the Hammond River Watershed.
Excellent organization, analytical, and communication skills.
Fish, plant, BMI ID skills considered an asset.
E-fishing or other fish sampling methods considered an asset.
Stream, wetland, and/or riparian restoration considered an asset.
Terms of Employment
This is a full-time, 52-week position starting in December 2019 with the
possibility of extension.
Mileage and other work-related expenses will be reimbursed.
Due to the source of funding for this position, the candidate must be:
Unemployed, underemployed or working less than 15 hours per week.
Must be a resident of New Brunswick.
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must be between 18-29 years of age.
