Position: Community Food Coordinator
Organization: Ecology Action Centre
Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia

ABOUT YOU

As the Community Food Coordinator you are eager to use your knowledge of community food security as well as apply a strategic and collaborative lens on regional food system development. You have an aptitude to develop partnerships, learn from the grassroots and collate information generated across community, government and business sector into a coordinated approach around food policy development.

YOUR FOCUS

You will work to support and expand EACs food work, ensuring strong connections to diverse food system stakeholders and linking food policy and action to EACs organizational campaigns. In 2020/21, the development of a Food Action Plan for the Halifax Region, in partnership with HFPA and the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) will be your primary focus. The food action plan aims to coordinate and maximize efforts of diverse food actors from across government, business and community sectors in helping to achieve our vision and make progress towards measurable goals.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING
• Sound knowledge of community food security, constructive engagement principles, and community development approaches;
• Project management skills that will connect people and projects across the HFPA Steering Committee and Task Teams to ensure clear communication and strong coordination;
• At least 3 years’ experience in project management;
• Commitment to environmental issues and social justice;
• Demonstrated ability to work well within collaborative structures and coalitions and with diverse groups and supporting inclusion;
• Experience in community and public engagement including meeting and group facilitation and event planning;
• Ability to research, analyze data, write reports and coordinate the implementation of the food action plan.
• Proactive approach to funding and grant writing initiatives in order to support the advancement of the Food Action plan and other food related initiatives that are important for EAC;

This is a full time position, 37.5 hours a week (Mon-Fri) starting wage $22.00 wage.
