Position: Manager – Community Climate Support Initiative
Organization: Clean Foundation
Location: Dartmouth/Halifax, Nova Scotia

Clean Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental, charitable environment organization created in 1988 through an Act of Legislature in Nova Scotia. Clean Foundation works in the traditional lands of the Mi’kmaq Peoples for a clean climate and clean water – and to support these foundations of a clean economy, fosters clean leaders of all ages.

This new project aims to support communities with capacity and training as they move forward with their climate adaptation and mitigation plans.

Position Overview: 

Reporting to the Director of Education and Engagement, the Manager – Community Climate Support Initiative will oversee the new Community Climate Capacity Support Program and the team of staff that is included within it. They will provide strategic guidance on design and implementation of this new initiative while also supporting a team of approximately 18 staff across NS. The incumbent will support communities through the application process, participate in the hiring of the team to support municipalities and design their training program. The Manager – Community Climate Support Initiative will also work with the team to action plans and projects in communities across NS.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
• Team Management; participate in the hiring, support and oversight of three specialists and 15 community support staff across NS
• Program Development and Management (in conjunction with specialists and directors); Clean Climate Community Support Program
• Stakeholder management and relations: between all three levels of government, public and private sector, First nations and public engagement;
• Design and implement training program for community support staff
• Remain current on climate-related topics, opportunities and resources;

Position Requirements/Qualifications: 
• Degree in environmental science, climate science, chemistry, or related field;
• Minimum five years’ experience related to climate change (Science and modelling), adaptation (planning and solutions), mitigation (carbon pricing and science), policy creation;
• Proven team and program management skills
• Experience in climate change action planning;
• Experience or training with carbon markets considered an asset;
• Experience or training in asset management considered an asset;
• Valid First Aid/CPR and WHMIS certification considered an asset;
• Experience working in a non-profit organization is considered an asset.
• Strong organizational, time management skill;
• Strong written and oral communication skills;
• Must demonstrate a passion for the environment;
• Must have a valid Canadian driver’s license and be able to provide a Driver’s Abstract from the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
