ABOUT YOU

You are passionate about energy efficiency and are eager to share your knowledge of sustainable energy systems with others in order to advance community energy efficiency initiatives within Nova Scotia. You thrive working in collaborative environments and building relationships to partner with organizations, private sector and the public. You are known as a real people-person with an ability to communicate confidently which will allow you to effectively navigate and advance change within government systems. This position works closely with other Energy Team members, and reports to the Director of Programs.

YOUR FOCUS

As the Energy Coordinator, you will be shaping the direction of and delivering EAC’s energy efficiency program, government relations and strategic, policy-focused interventions energy efficiency initiatives within Atlantic Canada. Key elements of the position will be:
• Designing and implementing energy efficient education and outreach strategy, such as advocating for all social housing to be Net Zero Energy Ready by 2030 and 3% DSM in Legislation.
• Monitoring evolving policy opportunities and advocating for improved energy efficiency in building code development/adoption, specifically as it relates to building retrofit regulation
• Synthesizing large amounts of information and a range of research related to energy efficiency in order to provide facilitation and leadership on complex issues.
• Creating and delivering in-person and online workshops, offering advice about energy efficiency upgrades and energy conservation techniques.
• Building relationships with key stakeholders, including the energy efficiency industry.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING
• At least two years of experience in organizing, planning and/or supporting advocacy campaigns in either a professional or volunteer capacity and/or training related to Sustainable Energy Systems Engineering Technology.
• Familiarity with provincial and national energy and climate change regulations and legislation.
• Superb interpersonal and communication skills: working with the public, speaking, writing, and delivering presentations to various audiences.
• Ability to work independently, effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
• Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze the most critical information needed to understand problems and offer reasonable alternatives to resolve problems or make decisions.
• Sees inclusion as a lens for everything from strategy to program design, communication plan and delivery.
• Experience working with Indigenous communities and African-Nova Scotian communities
• Comfort and experience in public speaking, facilitation, leading workshops, supporting community events, and general event planning.
• Proven skills as a relationship builder.
• Practical project management experience, including manage project finances and complete reports to funders and other stakeholders.
• Prior experience identifying and supporting the pursuit of fundraising and grant opportunities
• Computer literacy in MS Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Willingness to work some evenings and weekends and willing to travel.
• Experience working for a non-profit organization, First Nation Band, co-op, community enterprise or with governments on policy matters is an asset.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT 
• This is a full-time position, 37.5 hours a week (Mon-Fri)
• Start date: early September
• Wage starts at $22.44 per hour (based on relevant experience).
• Four weeks of paid vacation; cost-shared benefits plan
• During COVID, this position has been working remotely. Post-COVID, the position is expected to be working primarily on-site with some remote work. On-site work will be at our Halifax office at 2705 Fern Lane in our renovated, energy-efficient green office building.
• The first floor of our building is designed to be universally accessible.
