Position: Local Food Hub Manager
Organization: PEI Certified Organic Producers Cooperative
Location: Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island
The PEI Certified Organic Producers Cooperative (PEI COPC) is looking for a General Manager with an entrepreneurial/business/food industry background to lead the launch of an exciting new food distribution venture: The PEI Organic Food Hub.
This new Food Hub Manager position will guide and direct the management of all aspects of the Food Hubs daily operations ensuring efficient and effective facilitation and negotiation of customer and supplier needs. This hands-on position will report to and work with the Executive Director of the PEI COPC and supervise one part-time, with the possibility of more Food Hub staff members. It is anticipated that this position would begin in June 2021 on location in Charlottetown, PEI.
We are looking for a self-motivated, entrepreneurial individual with a good understanding of the food industry and its logistical challenges.
JOB DESCRIPTION
General:
Work with the PEI COPC Board to establish business and operational goals for the New Food Hub and provide regular reporting on Key Performance Indicators.
Manage contracts and agreements with suppliers, clients and service providers.
Oversee relationships with facility owners ensuring compliance with lease agreements.
Complete all necessary contract and grant deliverables, reporting, and reimbursement requirements in a timely and accurate manner.
Keep accurate and detailed financial records of all procurement orders and sales, including accounts receivable and accounts payable.
Identify ways to improve the food hub program, and put these strategies into action.
Business Development and Sales:
Develop, grow and oversee wholesale and food service sales accounts.
Establish sales objectives by forecasting and developing annual and seasonal sales quotas, and by projecting expected sales volume and profit.
Coordinate marketing campaigns to boost sales and producer membership, including press releases, newsletters and social media.
Participate in bid processes related to food procurement.
Farmer Relations:
Together with the Board of Directors, liaise with producers to grow supply base.
Oversee a professional and streamlined ordering process, with the ability to troubleshoot potential issues with delivery fulfillment.
Maintain clear and consistent lines of communication with all producers.
Logistics:
Organize shipments.
Coordinate drivers, vehicles, loads and journeys.
Ensure customer service and delivery standards, and make sure such standards are met by all food hub stakeholders.
Be on call during business hours to field order and delivery-related questions.
Tackle and resolve any issues or complaints that may arise.
Keep track of the cost, productivity, accuracy, and timeline targets.
Manage, coordinate and communicate the accurate use of the online ordering tool.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Experience starting up and managing a business or social enterprise related to agriculture and food systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of business development, logistics, supply chain management, and value chain coordination
Management Certificate or Bachelors degree required, ideally in concentrations of business, non-profit management, or logistics.
Impeccable customer services skills.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion and drive large vans and delivery trucks.
Strong computer skills with the ability to learn and use inventory management software.
Strong attention to detail.
Proven track record supervising staff and building successful consumer and partner relationships.
Self-directed individual with the ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, as well as collaborate with others in a team setting.
This is a full-time position with an expected annual salary range of $40,000 - $50,000, plus benefits.
