ABOUT YOU

You are excited to be part of the start-up phase of a unique community and ocean livelihood development project and thrive when involved in something new. You have a background in sustainable economic development and a passion for social enterprise, ideally in coastal, rural, and/or marine settings. You are a creative problem solver, willing to roll up your sleeves and be hands on while also comfortable entering a boardroom. Your experience in project management with a track record of making things happen, will enable you to advance partnerships, build relationships and work with a team to drive the development of an exciting new project that aims to connect diversity of people and communities to opportunities in sustainable, small scale seaweed aquaculture and product development.

YOUR FOCUS

The Project Manager - Community Economic Development, Sustainable Seaweed Aquaculture will work closely with the Marine Program Senior Coordinator to drive the development of a project aimed at supporting small-scale seaweed aquaculture and market opportunities in Atlantic Canada. The project has an ‘on the water’ component - establishing the first community demonstration and training seaweed farm - and a ‘land side’ component – developing a small/micro business incubator specifically to support seaweed product entrepreneurs. The primary focus of this role is designing, building the partnerships needed, and delivering the seaweed entrepreneur incubator aspect of the project. The Project Manager will also coordinate overall project tracking of deliverables being met by other staff and consultants and support overall project start up work. We will proactively seek participation in all aspects of the program from wide variety of people and communities that are often under-served in the 
 marine and seafood space. The Project Manager will be expected to support and build connections to support this goal.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Working closely with the Marine Program, Senior Coordinator, develop and implement the seaweed product and entrepreneur incubator aspect of the project
• Build partnerships with organizations, institutions, and people in communities that will that are needed for program development, research deliverables, and participant recruitment
• Ensure systems are in place to coordinate and track the successful and timely completion of overall project objectives being carried out by project staff and consultants
• Designing risk mitigation strategies, contracts, and memorandum of understanding agreements as needed
• Seek and hire consultants for market research
• Establish relationships and engagement strategies to ensure project opportunities are of interest to and taken up by participants from diverse communities.
• Create outreach and recruitment materials
• Attending meetings as an Ecology Action Centre representative
• Participating in and supporting the overall work of the Marine Program and the Ecology Action Centre

WHAT YOU WILL BRING
• Degree or equivalent experience in sustainable economic development, business, international development with interest and/or experience in coastal/marine livelihoods and ecosystems
• 3 years experience managing multi-faceted projects in a related field including developing and managing contracts, working with consultants, managing budgets and workflows, assessing and mitigating risks, and setting timelines
• Experience with small business or non-profit development and support including marketing, business planning, and grant writing
• Knowledge of Atlantic Canadian marine related policy and governance as asset
• Proven skills as a relationship builder and talented at creating strong networks.
• Effective problem-solving skills and a willingness to get creative and innovate
• Experience working with diverse communities and ensuring inclusion and accessibility
• Self-motivated with strong organizational and writing skills
• Proficient using Project Management Tools, Office 365 applications such as SharePoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and contribute to a collaborative team environment
• Strong organizational and priority settings skills

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
• Start date: April 2022 or as soon as possible
• Full time, indefinite contract, with flexible hours
• Annual salary range approximately, $51,000.00 - $55,000 CAD, negotiable based on experience
• Cost-shared benefits plan and 4 weeks paid vacation per year
• When required, on-site work will be at our Halifax office as well as the South Shore of Nova Scotia
• The position will require occasional evening and weekend work and travel provincially, regionally, and potentially internationally
• Driver’s license required
