1. India: Defying the Crown- March 6, 2023
In India in the 1930s, after Gandhi had returned from South Africa, he and his followers adopted a strategy of refusing to cooperate with British rule. Through civil disobedience and boycotts, they successfully loosened their oppressors' grip on power and set India on the path to freedom.

Lyn Adamson, climate activist, nonviolence trainer, and member of the boards of Science for Peace, Voice of Women for Peace and Climatefast
2. Nashville: We Were Warriors- March 20, 2023
In the 1960s, Gandhi's nonviolent weapons were taken up by black college students in Nashville, Tennessee. Disciplined and strictly nonviolent, they successfully desegregated Nashville's downtown lunch counters in five months, becoming a model for the entire civil rights movement.

A long-time activist, for over 30 years, LeeAnn McKenna has been doing work in conflict zones around the world, supporting local initiatives for peace.
3. Chile: Defeat of a Dictator- April 3, 2023
In 1983, Chilean workers initiated a wave of nonviolent protests against the military dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet. The political upheavals of 2014 in Ukraine and the simmering conflict that continued for eight years on Ukraine's territory remain of fundamental importance for an understanding of the war in Ukraine and viable paths to peace. To discuss these issues, the Quincy Institute is holding a conversation with two leading experts on Ukraine, Professors Dominique Arel and Jesse Driscoll. Their book, "Ukraine's Unnamed War", is a crucial guide to the origins of the Russian invasion and the ethnic, cultural, political and geopolitical dynamics that underlie the present conflict. It should be essential reading for U.S. policymakers, analysts, and all Americans who are concerned by this tragic and dreadful war. Suzanne Loftus, Research Fellow at the Quincy Institute, will moderate.
The conversation will take place on Wednesday, March 8 from 12 to 1 pm EST.

WEBINAR: Evergreen Lessons of the Iraq War Twenty Years Later
MARCH 20, 2023
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM ET
Register: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/4316776177137/WN_c-vC_rJKSAK2Kytu6Us-yw
On March 19th, 2003, the U.S. invaded Iraq based on false claim of weapons of mass destruction. The invasion destabilized the region and led to Iraq's economic collapse, sectarian resentment, to two insurgencies and the growth of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, which later morphed into ISIS. The resulting conflict took a heavy toll - 4,418 U.S. troops died during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and another 107 died during Operation Inherent Resolve to defeat ISIS, while Brown University's Watson Institute estimates that between 275,000 to 306,000 Iraqi civilians were killed. No weapons of mass destruction were found.
Why were Congress and the American public so easily misled in the lead up to the 2003 invasion? Has anything changed since then that would make it less likely for this to happen again? What are the long-term consequences of this invasion? Why are U.S. troops still in Iraq, 20 years later? What is the legacy of the U.S. invasion in Iraq and what does a post-American Iraq look like?
Join us for a discussion of these questions and more with Marsin Alshamary, Assistant Professor at Boston College, Michael O'Hanlon, Senior Fellow and Director of Research for Foreign Policy at Brookings Institution, and Steven Simon, Senior Research Analyst at the Quincy Institute and the Robert E. Wilhelm Fellow at the MIT Centre for International Studies. Adam Weinstein, Research Fellow in the Quincy Institute's Middle East Program, will moderate.
The conversation will take place on Monday, March 20, from 2-3 pm EST.
