Hello Sust-Mar,

I sent this email to Canadian Pugwash and wanted to pass it on to you as well in case you find it helpful.

I would like to share these resources & upcoming events with you. The resources relate to US-led regime change operations in Haiti in 2004, Ukraine 2014, Pakistan 2024 - please notice the pattern and ask more questions about what is really going on in the war in Ukraine.

Please also consider the fact that the US Senate has just moved forward a $95 billion package for weapons to Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/feb/12/senate-procedural-vote-ukraine-israel-aid The wars keep the US arms trade going.

*These wars are destroying the planet and the climate.

RESOURCES & UPCOMING EVENTS below.

(1)
Tucker Carlson's important 2-hour interview with President Putin:
https://twitter.com/TuckerCarlson/status/1755734526678925682
Notice what Putin says about the coup against the democratically elected government in Ukraine in February 2014. The US orchestrated the coup against the Yanukovych government.

Transcript of the Text of the Carlson interview with President Putin:
http://en.kremlin.ru/events/president/news/73411
*Notice that the NYT says nothing about the problem of NATO backing neo-Nazis in Ukraine, which Putin talked about.

*Putin discussed the problem of neo-Nazis in Ukraine, the coup in 2014, Nazi collaborator in Canada etc. From 2017, Canada was arming neo-Nazi forces in Ukraine. Putin also discussed possibilities for peace. Recall in December 2021, the Russian Federation put forward to draft treaties to NATO and the US for negotiations: https://mid.ru/ru/foreign_policy/rso/nato/1790818/

*This war was totally avoidable before February 2022. The US and other NATO countries including Canada pushed NATO expansion ignoring Russia's objections & draft treaties and pushed NATO-backed neo-Nazi Ukrainian forces to shot & shell into the Donbass killing and injuring ethnic Russian-Ukrainians to draw Russia in. Thousands of ceasefire violations took place from the beginning of January 2022 to February 21, 2022, see the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission for Ukraine: https://www.osce.org/special-monitoring-mission-to-ukraine/512683
The war could also have ended in April 2022 if the US and the UK had not told Ukraine to stop negotiating. Even Ukraine's top negotiator Ambassador Chalyi talks about this in his remarks on the panel in Geneva in December 2023: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2zpV35fvHw

*Thus, the war in Ukraine is primarily the fault of the US and other NATO countries including Canada. The war will stop when Biden stops it.

(disclaimer: I do not support Carlson's right-wing, anti-immigrant politics, but I do support him interviewing Putin - we need to listen to the Russian perspective, hearing the "grievances" and using dialogue and diplomacy to solve conflict and end wars.)

Please listen to the important 40-minute analysis of Putin's interview by Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, British lawyer & political analyst Alexandre Mercouris and Cypriot journalist Alex Christoforou:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJNg5OwM6VU&t=4039s

Dr. Sachs is a world renowned economist, the Director of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network and UN Senior Advisor: https://csd.columbia.edu/sachs

*Listen to what Sachs says about his knowledge of the war in Ukraine, his long relationship with Russia & his 30-year relationship with the editors of the New York Times and how they are lying to the public and no longer publishing Sachs' articles. The NYT has published false stories about the war in Iraq, Ukraine, Gaza... it cannot be fully trusted.

Dr. Jeffrey Sachs was in Kyiv two days after the coup in February 2014 to advise the new, but illegitimate and unconstitutional government that was installed by the US. Sachs talks about this more in this interview below.

(3)
I highly encourage you listen to this 30-minute interview by Sachs of Dr. Lindsey O'Rourke, Political Scientist at Boston College and author of the 2018 book "Covert Regime Change: America's Secret Cold War", which was based on her doctoral disseration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_EEWx5_nmg
*Sachs also talks about his relationship with Haiti's President Aristide who was overthrown in another coup by the US in 2004 and what Aristide said to Sachs about being overthrown.

Please check out Dr. Lindsey O'Rourke's crucial book "Covert Regime Change: America's Secret Cold War: (Cornell University Press, 2018):
https://www.bc.edu/bc-web/schools/morrissey/departments/political-science/people/faculty-directory/lindsey-orourke.html

(4)
The US's shameful regime change operations continue in Pakistan today. Here is Dr. Sachs' latest article: "The US Toppling of Imran Khan" by Dr. Sachs (Imran Khan, who is now illegally imprisoned by US backed military, is a long time friend of Sachs). Though Khan is in prison on trumped up charges, his PTI party won in a landslide, but the US, Canada and other Western countries are claiming the election outcomes aren't "free and fair": https://www.jeffsachs.org/newspaper-articles/a8dt7m63khdptc8hw6c8xej2yxwaz5
Canada's statement on Pakistan's election but says nothing about Khan being imprisoned: https://www.canada.ca/en/global-affairs/news/2024/02/statement-following-recent-elections-in-pakistan.html Before entering Pakistani politics, Khan was the Chancellor of the University of Bradford in the UK.

(5)
Note: This month is the 20th anniversary of the US-Canada-France overthrow of the democratically elected government of Jean-Bertrand Aristide in Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, which has severely suffered from chaos, violence and insecurity even since. Aristide was the beloved priest of the poor who was voted for on mass by the people but blocked twice by the US.

Please read Haitian-Canadian Jean St-Vil (Jafrikayti)'s article "A Legacy of Canadian Intervention in Haiti, 20 Years On": https://nacla.org/legacy-canadian-intervention-haiti-20-years

(6)
*There has been no accountability or reparations or justice for any of the US, Canada & Western coups and regime change operations around the world.
Dr. Sachs just published "How the CIA Destabilises the World"
https://www.commondreams.org/opinion/cia-destablizes-the-world

(11)
*Anne Applebaum is not a credible source. She is on the board of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), which was established by the Reagan administration in the 1980s to facilitate regime change operations: https://www.ned.org/experts/anne-applebaum/ Applebaum is serving the board. The other board member who just stepped down from the NED was Elliot Abrams who helped run the dirty wars in Central America in the 1980s and who recently tried to overthrow the Maduro government of Venezuela as a "special envoy".

*I don't trust anything by NYT Moscow Bureau Chief Anton Troianovski writes about Russia including his analysis about the Putin interview, unless it is substantiated by a credible source. The NYT has been lying about and supporting US wars from the illegal war in Iraq and on. Journalists Seymour Hersh and Chris Hedges who both worked for the NYT talk about the NYT being a stenographer for the US government & intelligence services.

BRICS AS HOPE
The US, the country that is arming & supporting Israel's horrific genocide against Gaza, is the same government that blocked peace between Russia-Ukraine and has been arming & supporting Ukrainian neo-Nazi violence against ethnic Russian-Ukrainians in Donbass - in my opinion the unifying force is fascism and the US trying to maintain its dominance of Europe, the Middle East and Asia (through Taiwan).

Countries that have suffered from so much US/Western destabilization, mendacity and violence are tired of it and are coming together through BRICS, which is based on "non-interference, respect for sovereignty and mutual benefit": https://www.mfa.gov.cn/eng/zxxx_662805/202206/t20220623_10709037.html

Dr. Vishay Prashad director of the Tricontinental Institute gives this 3 minute explanation between G7-NATO v. BRICS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwga_ivwKLo and note: Prashad wrote the book "The Poorer Nations" and more recently the book "Washington Bullets: A History of the CIA, Coups, and Assassinations"

In solidarity for accountability for US/Western wars & coups, Justice for Haiti and in recognition of Black History Month,
