Position: Stewardship Coordinator
Organization: The Nature Trust of New Brunswick
Location: Fredericton, New Brunswick (local candidate preferred)
Reports to:Â Stewardship Manager
Adheres to: Stewardship, Land Acquisition, Conservation Easement, HR, Record Keeping, Advocacy, Fundraising and other applicable Nature Trust Policy Frameworks
ROLE SUMMARY
The Stewardship Coordinator works closely with the Stewardship Manager to ensure that the Nature Trust of New Brunswick (Nature Trust) stewards and improves the environmental integrity of the Nature Trustâs network of nature preserves and upholds the philosophy of the Stewardship Department:
The Nature Trust of New Brunswick is committed to the care of our nature preservesâ cultural and natural heritage for current and future generations. We prioritize stewardship activities using scientific and traditional knowledge to ensure the sustainable growth of our preserve network. We remain dedicated to collaborating with local communities, Indigenous partners, and environmental organizations in carrying out this work. Where possible, we provide access to nature preserves for low-impact recreation and traditional land uses to facilitate human connection to nature.Â
The primary roles of the Stewardship Coordinator are (i) to strategize and prioritize critical work on nature preserves, (ii) to engage voluntary stewards to aid in caring for nature preserves, (iii) supervise technicians, interns, and other volunteers in conjunction with the Stewardship Manager, and (iv) to deliver stewardship projects including project development, planning, mapping, analyses, and delivery.
Working closely with the Stewardship Manager, the Stewardship Coordinator will oversee the execution of all required management activities on nature preserves, delivery of Stewardship projects and their deliverables, and act as the liaison between the Nature Trust, stewards, and stewardship groups.
Duties and Responsibilities
Stewardship of Nature Preserves and Conservation Easements
Adhere to the Stewardship Strategy to prioritize tasks and activities for staff and volunteers accordingly.
Plan and execute visits to nature preserves and annual monitoring of Conservation Easements (with priority given to Conservation Easements and Ecological Gifts) with staff and volunteers.
Update regional management plans as needed.
Create and update preserve needs in accordance with the Stewardship Strategy and in conjunction with the Stewardship Manager.
Assist the Engagement team with volunteer training programs or work days they organize.
Ensure all nature preserve and conservation easement monitoring reports are complete and filed as dictated in the Stewardship Strategy and report any concerns or issues to the Stewardship Manager.
Coordination of boundary monitoring and training of new volunteers.
Stewardship Programming and Departmental Support
Assist the Stewardship Manager with funding proposals and reporting needs.
Plan and execute the required activities of Stewardship programs and projects in collaboration with the Stewardship Manager.
Assist in the training of stewards and stewardship groups on how to monitor preserves.
Train, supervise, and delegate tasks to interns, students, and volunteers according.
Follow stewardship policies and procedures and recommend changes as necessary.
Stewardship Group Management
Maintaining regular communication with stewards and stewardship groups and act as the point of contact for any events or activities on the nature preserve that they steward.
Provide training and support to volunteers, stewards, and stewardship groups on Landscape Conservation Software.
Assist stewards in undertaking stewardship activities, consulting Stewardship Manager for details on new preserves.
Organize stewardship group workshops, recruiting volunteers, and involving experts in training of key nature preserve elements with the support of the Engagement department.
Ensure each steward or stewardship group sends an annual monitoring report.
General Tasks
File and manage all new information and data of nature preserves.
Assist in the preparation of all stewardship-related content for social media and newsletters.
Ensure contacts and relevant communications are up to date on CRM.
Prepare maps for signage, stewardship projects, and species surveys as required.
Support Stewardship Manager with any GIS and data analysis work needed.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Post-secondary degree in Environmental Management or other related field OR college graduate with equivalent experience;
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French;
Strong interest in the field of environmental conservation; shared vision with the Nature Trust of New Brunswick;
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize;
Team player who works well with others and has the ability to develop and maintain positive professional partnerships and relationships;
Experience working in leadership positions and managing projects;
Familiarity with both provincial and federal environmental legislation and policies;
Experience with Salesforce CRM, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint;
Experience with ArcGIS;
Experience with data management and analysis;
Experience with public speaking and group facilitation;
Independent and self-motivated;
Experience working in a non-profit setting is an asset;
A valid class 5 driverâs license, insurance, and ability to use their vehicle or a rental car.

The Stewardship Coordinator can expect a fast-paced work environment with the need to manage several projects at once. As the job role is very communication focused, the Stewardship Coordinator can expect to be operating in team-based environment filled with external interaction. The work is office based with outdoor fieldwork required periodically. Physical fitness is required as field days are long and can be strenuous, with all weather conditions. The position also involves the potential need to work long hours, and outside of business hours when needed, including overnight travel and weekends.
Start Date: May 1, 2024 (flexible)
Length: Salaried, full-time
Salary: $40,000 - $54,000 (depended on experience and funding)
