Our main presenter, Bahar Sharafi, is an Iranian-American activist, born in Tehran with family there.   Now living in Dorchester, she is a MAPA board member-nominee, and co-chair of the MAPA-initiated Stop the US War on Iran committee.  Bahar is a volunteer leader with the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Iranian American Council, and a co-founder of CD8 for Palestine. She spoke on the US-Iran war to 130,000 people at the "No Kings III" rally on Boston Common, March 30. A second presenter will explain actions you can take and how to get involved.

An Australian diplomat, Burton was experienced in Cold War diplomacy, civil strife, reforming organizations, resistance to change.  He had 'been there' and he found much to criticize. He knew that words and ideas were not enough: there needed to be instruments of change.
This webinar will outline the main principles of his pioneering work. Burton was key to the foundation of the International Peace Research Association (IPRA) in 1964, and of the Conflict Research Society in the UK. Women Wage Peace Canada is delighted to have the opportunity for our members to meet with one of the two 2025 Winners of the Vivian Silver Impact Award (see further detail about that ceremony below). Please mark your calendars for May 31, 2026  (9 AM Pacific, 11AM Central, Noon Eastern, and 7 PM Tel Aviv time). Yofi Tirosh will speak to us on the topic of Women in Israel Between Wars and Democratic Backsliding. This lecture and conversation will offer an account of the state of women and gender equality in Israel in the last three years. Offering a loving but unsparing critique of Israel today, Professor Tirosh will suggest that, much like other populist regimes worldwide, Netanyahu's coalition is leveraging augmented religious rights and misogynistic policies donned as religious commitments as a means to deepen and legitimize major harms to women's and LGBTQ's autonomy and equality. This war on women serves, in turn, the war on democracy. Special emphasis will be placed on the growing normalization of gender-segregated or men-only institutions and activities.
Yofi Tirosh is an Associate  Professor at Tel Aviv  University's Faculty of Law, a Senior Research Fellow at Jerusalem's Hartman  Institute, and a nationally renowned human rights activist focusing on women's  rights, particularly on the correct balance between religious rights and gender equality.

Israel is finally moving ahead with a criminally dangerous settlement project in the occupied West Bank - called "E1" - that will permanently sever the north from the south, carving up Palestine into disconnected enclaves. This is classic colonial divide-and-conquer.

Sometimes referred to as Israel's "doomsday" settlement, the E1 expansion would permanently entrench Israeli annexation and foreclose any viable path to a just political resolution. SIGN THE PETITION: Our call stands: Stop the Prisoners' Execution Law
This law was passed by the Israeli Knesset on March 30, 2026. Its passing marks a dangerous and unprecedented escalation in Israel's pursuit of Palestinian erasure. This law mandates the death penalty for Palestinians accused of causing the death of an Israeli citizen 'deliberately or through indifference,' from a motive of racism or hostility against an Israeli citizen and with the aim of harming the State of Israel and 'the national revival of the Jewish people in its land'. It includes two distinct tracks: in the occupied West Bank, military courts would impose the death penalty under military law, by a simple majority of judges rather than a unanimous decision. In 'Israel' and occupied East Jerusalem, the death penalty would apply under Israeli criminal law. The wording of the legislation makes clear that it will function as yet another apartheid policy and genocidal tool, in that it will apply exclusively to Palestinians, entrenching Israel's racial domination, subjugation, and destruction of the Palestinian people. In all cases, sentences would be mandatory, carried out by hanging within 90 days, and expressly exempt from commutation.
