Playing the Classics Level I
The first part of the day would be spent 'at the table' - exploring the
Elizabethan world view, classical rhetoric and the history of Elizabeth and
James I reign as it applies to the plays. While the focus will be on
Shakespeare, the information will be applicable to any classical work of
this period, such as Middleton, Webster, Jonson and Marlowe. During the
latter part of the day each person will have a chance to spend about 20
minutes working on their own classical monologue. You should have some
experience with the classics and an existing classical monologue.
Class size - minimum 8, maximum 15
Dates - Monday April 22 or 29, 2002 or Saturday April 27, 2002, 10am to 6pm
Location - The Village Playhouse (Runnymede and Bloor)
Instructor - Andrew Freund
Cost per day - $30 for non-Equity, $20 for Equity members, $15 to audit

Demystifying Shakespeare
The focus of this workshop is to make Shakespeare fun and interesting and
break down the walls of awe and disinterest that are sometimes put up by
teachers, professors, parents and the media. The day will be spent 'at the
table'. Beginning with a sonnet to unlock the metre and how it deposits
clues to playing the text, the work will continue with readings of
representative scenes and speeches from the plays and poems. Moments in the
history of Shakespeare's life and the Elizabethan age will also be addressed
throughout the day.

Class size - minimum 15, maximum 25
Date - Saturday May 4, 2002, 10am to 6pm
Location - The Village Playhouse (Runnymede and Bloor)
Instructor - Andrew Freund
Cost per day - $30 for non-Equity, $20 for Equity members
