Canada Council grant and prize deadline updates

1. Call for nominations:
The 2002 Walter Carsen Prize for Excellence in the
Performing Arts (Theatre)

1. THE 2002 WALTER CARSEN PRIZE FOR EXCELLENCE IN THE PERFORMING ARTS
The Canada Council for the Arts announces the opening of nominations for the
prestigious Walter Carsen Prize, which will be awarded in 2002 to a theatre
artist. The Walter Carsen Prize is worth $50,000 (tax-free). See
http://www.canadacouncil.ca/prizes/more/prsh25-e.asp  for information on the
2001 winner.

Professional performing artists, companies and organizations are invited to
submit nominations for this prize. We also solicit your assistance in
publicizing the call for nominations to other persons in your community. The
enclosed Prize Information Sheet gives full information on nomination
procedures. It is also available on our Website at
http://www.canadacouncil.ca/prizes/more/prsh25-e.asp . You may obtain a
nomination form from Carol Bream. Nomination forms and related documentation
must be submitted directly to the Canada Council for the Arts by 15 March
2002 (not 30 April as in 2001).

ext.5060 or Janet Riedel in Endowments and Prizes at 4116 to receive the
nomination form for the Walter Carsen Prize. It is not available on the
website and will not be sent by fax or e-mail.

2. GRANTS TO THEATRE ARTISTS
Please note that a second deadline has been added for the program of Grants
to Theatre Artists. The new deadlines are 15 April and 15 September. Grant
amounts range from $3,000 to $20,000 and support individual creation of new
work, professional development and artist-in-residency projects.  Please

information.

3. SENIOR FELLOWSHIP GRANTS
The Canada Council for the Arts is proud to announce the creation of two
Senior Fellowship Grants in theatre. These $40,000 grants will be awarded to
theatre artists and administrators with at least 15 years of professional
experience to enable them to pay expenses necessary to carry out a research
project. The grants are awarded in recognition of the professional
achievements of the applicants. The deadline is 15 September.
