Theatre: Acting/Movement

York University, Department of Theatre in the Faculty of Fine Arts,
located in Toronto, invites applications for a Tenure Stream Appointment
in Movement for the Theatre at the rank of Assistant Professor, with
undergraduate and graduate teaching responsibilities, effective July 1,
2002.  Position is subject to budgetary approval by the university.

The successful candidate will be able to teach and integrate the
following: alignment and centering techniques; body/mind/emotion
connection work for the actor; a wide range of basic dance and energy
centering techniques; and movement specificity towards building
character.  Experience in self-scripting and story-telling techniques
and/or the ability to direct department productions would be an asset.
The candidate must work well in an integrated program with an
experienced team of theatre professionals, facilitating as coach and
teacher in the transition from studio to performance.

York's Department of Theatre includes an innovative Graduate Program,
and an Undergraduate Program with over 350 majors studying performance,
directing, theatre studies, production, design, and playwriting.  The
performance area offers conservatory-style training, with intense studio
classes in Voice, Acting and Movement through a four-year undergraduate
and two-year graduate program. Approximately sixty acting students at
both levels are taught by a faculty of seven tenured, and many part-time
professors.  A performance season of up to four fully-mounted shows is
augmented each year by another five or six class and program projects.
The Faculty of Fine Arts also includes Departments of Dance, Design,
Film and Video, Music, Visual Arts, and Cultural Studies.

Qualifications and Experience: Significant training, performing,
coaching and teaching experience in Movement for the Theatre at a
professional level, as well as teaching and supervisory experience at
the undergraduate and graduate levels in conservatory training
programs.  An M.F.A degree is preferred.

Salary will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of
