Canada's largest theatre for young audiences, the Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People (formerly Young Peoples Theatre) is pleased to invite applications for the position of Artistic Director.

Since 1966, the Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People (LKTYP) has been dedicated to creating and producing professional theatre for diverse audiences of children from age four to infinity. Through stage productions, new play development, and a drama school, the LKTYP seeks to enlighten and inspire young people and the adults in their lives.

The company currently offers a 7 or 8 play season to an audience of 80,000 in its home in Toronto where a renovated building contains a 450-seat theatre, a 110-seat studio, offices and production shops. This not-for-profit company has an annual operating budget in excess of $3,000,000 and is financially sound.

Reporting to an active Board of Directors, the Artistic Director is responsible for articulating an artistic vision that invests the mission of the LKTYP with new meaning and inspires renewal, excitement and growth. Working with the Managing Director and a full-time staff of 16, the Artistic Director ensures all programming meets strategic and operational objectives. The position also has specific responsibilities for long term planning and communications, as well as audience development, community relations, advocacy, grant preparation and fund raising.

The position requires a proven ability to successfully develop and select programming for children; cultivate and compose teams of talented playwrights, directors, designers and actors; and guide and inspire artists, technicians, staff and board members. The board of the LKTYP is looking for an artistic leader with vision, energy and a commitment to excellence. The Artistic Director will also become the company's ambassador to the theatre community, the business world and the public at large, and will tirelessly promote the interests of the theatre.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and respected artist currently enjoying a distinguished career in theatre. Applicants may be a dramaturg, director or artistic director who has experience in working in mid to large-sized theatres.
