AUDITION NOTICE

Roseneath Theatre, Toronto's internationally acclaimed touring theatre
for young audiences, welcomes submissions for their upcoming tour of
Danny, King of the Basement. They are casting for the following roles:

Louise - Character age: 28-30 Louise is a brash, aging party girl who
is trying to get her act together and provide a permanent home for her
son.

Angelo - Adult actor to play 10 yr old boy. Italian. Angelo has
problems. His Dad is a dinosaur. He can't score a goal and his
neighbour Penelope is
Godzilla the Hut.

Penelope - Adult actress to play a precocious 10 yr old girl.
Black/Asian. Penelope had it all. A private school, a major clothing
allowance and two
cell phones. But now that her Dad has moved out things have changed.
She might actually have to play with Angelo. Gag.

"Roseneath Theatre is committed to issues of social equity in all
aspects of our society. Casting descriptions are based on text. We
welcome applications from all competent artists".

The Play: "Danny, King of the Basement" is the story of Danny 'Delco'
Carter, a ten-year-old boy who has lost more homes than teeth. As the
play
begins, Danny moves into a basement apartment with his mother Louise,
his eighth home (and school) in two years. Meeting local kids Angelo
and
Penelope, Danny makes friends in a morning and best friends in a day.
But even these skills and his amazing imagination can't cope with an
unexpected crisis - not losing a home but gaining one. "Danny" was
inspired by the Golden Report on Homelessness in Toronto, which reported
that 25% of homeless people are children under the age of twelve.

"Danny, King of the Basement" won Dora Mavor Moore Awards for
Outstanding Production (TYA), Best Actor (TYA) and the Canada Council
Prize for Theatre For Young Audiences.

Dates: Rehearsals begin January 2nd, 2003. The play opens January
18th. The tour runs until the middle of April.

Roseneath Theatre operates under the jurisdiction of CAEA (ITA).

Script: Available through The Toronto Central Reference Library -
