JoNeSiNG - "A POWERFULLY MYTHIC" PLAY DEBUTS NOVEMBER 19, 2003 AT
BUDDIES IN BAD TIMES THEATRE

Toronto playwright Kevin Sheard's new play "Jonesing" will receive it's
premiere at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre in a three week run that
previews on November 18, 2003, opening on November 19, 2003 and running
until December 7, 2003. This is Mr. Sheard's first stage play since his
tremendous success with "Naked Powerplay" in 1998 which broke box office
records at Summerworks and during it's remount at Buddies in Bad Times
Theatre.

"Jonesing" tells the story of a most dysfunctional family coping with
drug (crack) addiction, incest, prostitution, homosexuality and family
power struggle. The story draws heavily on components of ancient Greek
tragedy - presenting a modern representation of themes from Oedipus,
Medea, Lysistrata and Antigone. The play also explores the intense decay

and deterioration of our downtown city cores and the general relaxation
of social and moral standard in today's society. Mr. Sheard is a
downtown home owner and resident who has experienced harsh intrusion,
physical abuse, deceit and threat from the current situation thriving in
downtown Toronto. His play, like many, is inspired from real life
experience.

After an exhaustive search for fresh, creative, innovative and raw
talent, Mr. Sheard as director, has assembled a fine cast of local
actors. Featured are Steve Caley portraying the young man (John), James
Greenwood (Anderson) as the man (Robert), Shannon Mc Donnagh as the
woman (Alicia) and Julie Pinto has the role that is the heart and soul
of the play, the young woman (Miranda). Our resident designer David M.
Buffa designs, costumes, lighting and sound. This presentation is made
possible through a project grant from the Toronto Arts Council.
