DIRECTORS INTERNSHIP - SHAW FESTIVAL
-------------------------------------------------------
THE DIRECTORS PROJECT
at The Shaw Festival
for 2005

DEADLINE: JULY 31, 2004

The Academy of the Shaw Festival and Theatre Ontario are inviting applications for the 2005 Directors Project at the Shaw Festival. Professional directors near the beginning of their careers who are legally resident in Canada are eligible to apply.

Each year, the Shaw Festival hires two Intern Directors for a period of about six months. Contracts run approximately mid-March to late September, depending on the production schedule. These positions are salaried at an apprentice level [approx. $500 - 600 per week].

Intern Directors work under the mentorship of the Directors of the Academy, which is the Shaw Festival's professional development and public education wing. Each intern is assigned to two or three successive shows as an Assistant Director. At least one of these shows is in the Festival Theatre (860 seats) and another in a smaller one (330 seats). Each will also have the opportunity to participate in classes, seminars, special events and workshops under the auspices of The Academy of the Shaw Festival. Their work will culminate in the Directors Project, where each of the selected directors present a one-act play (chosen from the mandate of the Shaw Festival) to an invited audience of producers and artistic directors.

Since its inception in 1988, The Directors Project has been generously sponsored annually by Sun Life Financial. Applications are made through Theatre Ontario. Hiring decisions are made exclusively by the Shaw Festival. There are no applications forms - just submit a resumé with a covering letter to:
