JOB - MAINSPACE TECHNICIAN - TORONTO

Tarragon Theatre is inviting applications for the position of Mainspace
Technician. This is a seasonal position from late August to May. Summer
work may become available depending on Mainspace rental demand.


As an integral part of the production team, the Mainspace Technician
will report to the Production Manager. The successful candidate will be
responsible for the running of lighting and sound for all Mainspace
productions. The lighting portion of the position includes
responsibility for the interpretation of lighting plots and paperwork
and the dissemination of that information to crews as necessary to
execute the hanging, focusing and cueing of lighting designs. The sound
portion of this position includes responsibility for configuring the
sound playback system, in conjunction with the sound designer or
composer, to achieve what the design demands and the preparation of
sound playback media, including the editing of sound cues during the
production and preview periods. Other responsibilities includes regular
lighting and sound equipment maintenance. Working in conjunction with
the Production Manager and the Technical Director to plan and execute
theatre space improvements is essential.


Qualifications Include:

-	Knowledge of lighting control and dimming systems, as well as
other lighting technologies

-	Knowledge of sound playback systems, as well as some recording
and sound reinforcement technology

-	University or College accreditation with a Theatre Production
major or equivalent experience

-	Proficiency with personal computers and basic software
applications

-	Experience supervising lighting and sound set-up crews

-	A self motivator interested in bringing ideas to management on
how to organize, maximize and optimize one of Toronto's busiest theatre
spaces
