AUDITION - TORONTO
-----------------------------
PROJECT: A live reading of RICE PUDDING,
         written by Janet Banks

PRODUCTION COMPANY: Grolier 128

DIRECTOR: Lorne Hiro

STATUS: This is a one-night live workshop reading of a theatrical work
in progress that will later be presented at this summer's TORONTO FRINGE
FESTIVAL, therefore we would like to see both UNION and NON-UNION
performers.

AUDITION DATE: Wed., April 7th, 1:00 - 5:00 pm at LIFT - 37 Hanna
Street

PERFORMANCE DATE: TBA

SYNOPSIS: An academically smart sixteen-year-old girl considers herself
being punished by her mother for her lack of social awareness due to her
taste in music, that of Eminem whose lyrics are violent, especially
against women. So she is forced to volunteer at a senior's home where
they have assigned her kitchen detail. However, the girl learns more
than she bargained for as she inadvertently gets caught up with the
trials and tribulations of a "busy-body" nurse, who always tries to help
people whether they want it or not and a trouble-making tenant, a very
independent crotchety old man with an "I am what I am" attitude who
feels he has been forced to live there in order to be out of his
daughter's hair.

THE CLIENT IS SEEKING THE FOLLOWING:

AMY PARKS - FEMALE - SHOULD LOOK 16 YEARS OLD. Very academically
intelligent but also very street smart. Has a street or Goth look about
her. Loves Eminem music because she says it helps to make her feel.

NURSE SYLVIA SPATOLA - FEMALE - AROUND 55 YEARS OLD. ANY RACE. A kind
woman with verbal diarrhea. Always butting her nose into people's
business so that she can be helpful. The opposite of a strict nurse:
will break the rules for other peoples' comfort. Is also always
resourceful: if a tenant should pass away, she would take his/her
medication so that it doesn't get wasted and would find other uses for
it other than its intended use.

FRED MYERS - MALE - AROUND 73. CAUCASIAN. SHORT (about 4'8") BUT
WILL CONSIDER TALLER. ORIGINALLY FROM NEWFOUNDLAND (may require a
slight accent). A real "Popeye the sailor man" type. Has been placed
in the home against his will. Always causing trouble and never obeys
the rules. Raids the kitchen to eat what he wants. Works at a car wash
for extra cash and gambles it to increase his earnings. Hopes to make
enough to get a car and run away from this "God-forsaken place."
Worked on sea ships when he was young.
