Ground Zero Theatre and Calgary Opera are devilishly delighted to
co-present November Theatre's The Black Rider: The Casting of the Magic
Bullets By Tom Waits, William S. Burroughs, and Robert Wilson for a
limited engagement at the Big Secret Theatre from November 24 - 28,
2004.

Originally created in Germany in 1990, The Black Rider is an artistic
collaboration by rock icon Tom Waits, beat poet William S. Burroughs,
and designer/director Robert Wilson. The Black Rider is a Faustian
fairy tale based on the original story that inspired Weber's nineteenth
century opera Der Freischutz. In order to win the hand of his beloved
in a shooting contest, a clerk makes a pact with the devil, accepting
magic bullets that never miss their mark. The Black Rider is a wickedly
sensuous and stylized expressionistic opera where nothing is what it
seems: the devil sings, animals laugh, the woods are painted with blood,
and bullets have a mind of their own.

"You leave your life, a crappy little briefcase...this reeks of not
enough."

Toronto denizen Sandra Battaglini has been charming Canadian audiences
for years with her eclectic breed of comedic improvisation. Her work,
ranging from a callous in wonderland perspective of her childhood as a
second generation Italian-Canadian growing up in Sudbury, to her
tongue-in-cheek dance spectacles. Now Battaglini adorns a new mask this
November, by the name of Neri Flyme, offering some more disenfranchising
footnotes on life.

In her piece, Sandra Battaglini lays herself out as the constructive
destroyer trying to understand the fragments of her universe (hence the
allusion to string theory in the chosen title).
