Triptych presents
The Birthday Party
By Harold Pinter

Directed by Sid Zanforlin

April 13-30, 2005
12 Shows Only!

Triptych, Montreal's newest collaboration, is thrilled to mount Harold
Pinter's brilliant play, The Birthday Party. This dark, absurdist
tragicomedy will be presented at Theatre Ste-Catherine, Montreal's
hottest new venue.

Tickets to the preview performance on April 13 are available 2 for 1 for
that date only. Tickets: $12 Regular, $10 Students

Harold Pinter's The Birthday Party was the playwright's first
commercially produced full-length play. The story begins with a working
class couple, Meg and Petey, who run a modest boarding house. Their one
guest is a young man named Stanley who has lived there for about a year.
Over two days the drama heats up when two new boarders, Goldberg and
McCann, arrive. When Meg tells them it is Stanley's birthday, they
encourage her to celebrate with a party in his honour, despite Stanley's
protests. The party ensues, with drink, dance and games. The household's
uncomfortable, banal world is surrounded by threats that cannot be
named, as if they are tiptoeing through a nightmare. The questions keep
coming. Who are Goldberg and McCann, and what is their relationship to
Stanley? What is Stanley running from?
