6 classes
CAEA $280 Non-CAEA $360
Deadline for application: Feb 24

Int/Adv

Students will be expected to have a memorized monologue for the first
class.

This class will focus on the exploration and presentation of modern
monologues. This exploration will move from the workshop into the
audition setting to enable the actor to establish a visceral connection
to the playwright's material, and work on how to keep the "live"
connection resonating and fresh from one audition to the next. Language
and punctuation will also be examined as a key to learning the
playwright's intentions and to unlocking the emotions of the actor and
the emotional life of the character. Other areas to be investigated:
finding the physical, emotional, and verbal freedom to make choices in
the presentation of the monologue; courage, boldness, directness; the
importance of total preparation; the audition itself and SIMPLICITY.
This class will best serve those who have a desire to grow as artists
through risk and failure. Disciplined rehearsal outside of class is
essential.

process and be given specific feedback about how to improve their odds
of landing a role.

Part 1: The Dance Call
Step your way through a dance/movement audition. Learn how to play up
your strengths and compensate for flaws with useful tips for both
dancers and non-dancers. Participants should wear comfortable clothing
and appropriate footwear for this section.

Part 2: Individual Audition
Participants will present a mock audition. They should prepare one
musical theatre song, and one short monologue of no more than 2 minutes.
Participants must bring sheet music in the correct key, and be very
