FILUMENA CALL FOR AUDITIONS
Opera as Theatre in Banff
June 27 - August 06, 2005
Application deadline: January 31, 2005
(Late applications will be accepted as space allows.)

Principal Production: FILUMENA
Composer: John Estacio
Librettist: John Murrell

"Mimi and Madame Butterfly move over", proclaimed the Calgary Herald,
"there's a new heroine on the block and her name is Filumena."

Filumena tells the tragic but ultimately inspiring story of Florence
Lassandro, who emigrated with her family from southern Italy to western
Canada in the early twentieth century, and who became one of the last
women ever hanged for murder in Canada.

A thrilling opportunity to rehearse and perform Filumena, a critically
acclaimed new Canadian opera, under the supervision of an outstanding
faculty, including the composer, the librettist, the original stage
director, and celebrated baritone, Gaitan Laperrihre, creator of the
role of Emilio Picariello.

Accompanied by the Banff Festival Orchestra, and featuring sets,
costumes, and props by celebrated scenic designer Sue LePage, Filumena
will be presented on August 3, 4, 5, and 6, in the 959-seat Eric Harvie
Theatre.
