 The Classical Theatre Lab was founded by Artistic Director, Peter Van
Wart, in 1998 and is aimed at actors who adore the Classics. The Lab is
a great opportunity to engage the Classics in challenging and dynamic
ways, emphasizing process over product. Under the guidance of a
different theatre industry professional each week, participants have an
opportunity to present prepared scenes, monologues, poetry and sonnets.
Benefiting from the expertise of each Facilitator, actors will gain a
greater understanding of how to: 

*Use Shakespeare and other Classical Texts to develop skills and grow as
an actor 

*Discover the path towards relating the Classics to contemporary
experience, resulting in audience accessibility 

*Find the truth of the scene or monologue and communicate it through the
words

The goals for this class are to develop a higher state of control and
awareness of the actor's body, apply movement to character study
(creation of a role) and exploring movement as means of triggering
emotion. Elena Kanaki will guide students through Level One of her
system including body awareness, division of the body to 7 movement
different zones: neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, feet, and
development and coordination of muscles that are normally inactive. If
the progress of the class allows, she will continue working at the Level
2 Intermediate level that includes more profound study and practice of
movement, coordination between mobile parts of the body and sequential
movement of different parts of the body.

2. MEISNER ACTING TECHNIQUE WORKSHOP WITH JOHN RIVEN - TORONTO

John Riven has been teaching ongoing classes in the Meisner acting
technique in Toronto for over three years.  He is a graduate of the
Neighborhood Playhouse where he studied under Sanford Meisner and
Richard Pinter. He was a founding member of the Shadowfax Theatre
Company in NYC.  The company included many Neighborhood Playhouse
graduates and produced original plays in NYC during the 80's.  Other
founding members include 4 time Emmy winner Allison Janney : American
Beauty, The West Wing, Steve Rogers, sceenwriter: Hope Floats, Stepmom,
and Lisa Marie Radano , playwright and screenwriter: Mrs. Winterbourne.
While directing and acting with Shadowfax, John began teaching acting
and eventually opened his own studio in Manhattan.  One of his more
prominent students, Doug Hutchison, went on to starring roles in the
films, The Green Mile, The Salton Sea and Sam and Me. 

A new 6 week session will be starting on Thursday nights from September
22nd till October 27th.  Classes are held at Central Studios, 680 Yonge
St. 2nd fl and the price is $225 for Equity members and $295 for
