CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS - TORONTO

Calling all deaf Equity actors!

Equity Showcase Theatre & Shakespeare Link Canada

"Signing the Bard" May 22 - June 3, 2006

We are looking for deaf Equity actors who are interested in exploring
Shakespeare for a 2-week workshop May 22nd to June 3rd. This is a paid
gig under Workshops and Readings contracts for CAEA members. The
workshop will be lead by Kennedy C. MacKinnon, Artistic Director of
Shakespeare Link Canada (SLC), with Shakespeare Link, UK (Susanna Best
and Philip Bowen). Sue & Phil have worked in the UK for over 10 years
translating Shakespearean text into sign language and will be delivering
that process to workshop participants. "Signing the Bard" will be cast
with 6 hearing and 6 deaf professional actors. The text to be used is
"Romeo and Juliet", and there will be two rehearsals open to the public
in the final week.

This workshop will focus on language creation - the building of new
signs for the poetic language in ASL. In addition, the company will
explore the integration and collaboration of hearing and deaf actors on
stage as well as the impact that various configurations of that
integration might have on both hearing and deaf audiences. There are
future plans to mount a full production of Romeo and Juliet.

Actors should send a resume, photo and cover letter expressing interest
to: Kennedy C. MacKinnon at SLC 2815-25 The Esplanade Toronto, Ontario
M5E 1W5. Or, electronically to: kennedy at shakespearelinkcanada.ca

Equity members will be seen first at all open audition calls. Equity
members cast in this production will be engaged under an Equity form of
contract. CAEA members: please bring your membership card to the
audition.
