BirdLand Theatre, Toronto
 
BirdLand Theatre, Toronto 2006 Dora Mavor Moore Award winning company
for the production of "The Last Days of Judas Iscariot" is currently
seeking a General Manager for part time 5 months contract (July 2007 -
Dec 2007) with the possibility of extension.
We are looking for successful, dynamic, tough negotiator and super
detail oriented candidate with excellent time management, interpersonal
and communication skills, who is willing to work flexible hours.
Experience in charitable non-profit arts organizations, public
relations, and/or communications an asset. Above average computer skills
with word processing, database management and desktop publishing
experience in a Windows environment would also be required, as well as
working knowledge of the Canadian Theatre Agreement (CTA).
The General Manager is hired by and reports directly to the Artistic
Producer and is accountable to it for carrying out the following
functions:
Grants preparation 
Prepares government grant applications including budgets and needs
justification
Identifies potential sources of government funding
Develops contacts with government agencies to ensure good relations are
maintained
Fundraising and Development
Facilitate and monitor the work of the Fundraising and Development
person(s) and the Fundraising committee: establish and support the
appropriate administrative systems to support the strategies and
programs.
Administration
Develops and administers effective office and general administrative
procedures and ensures the necessary resources are available to carry
them out
Supervises the day-to-day activities of the office, and administrative
and accounting procedures and payroll
Trains and develops appropriate personnel in arts administration
Contract Negotiations
Negotiates and enters into agreements and contracts on behalf of the
Theatre, including: Actors and Stage Managers (in collaboration with
Artistic Producer),production personnel; program personnel; insurance
coverage; Canadian Actors Equity Association; office, storage, rehearsal
and performance space; service agreements on equipment. Working
knowledge of the Canadian Theatre Agreement is a must.           
Other Information.
Salary for this position is set at $2,000 per month, based on an
expected 25 hour work week. The General Manager is a self-employed
contractual engagement.
