"The Sound of Music" (ALL ROLES)
Deadline for Submissions: Nov. 9/07 (needs hard copy p & r) to:

Auditions: Begin the week of November 12th. Callbacks are Jan/08
The breakdown & casting for children will be released in the summer of
2008. Please save submissions until then. Rehearsals begin in August and
opens in September 2008.

Maria Rainer: Female. 20's. Soprano. A Postulant at Nonnberg Abbey.
Robustious, eccentric girl with a free spirit.

Captain Von Trapp: Male. 38-48 yrs. Baritenor. A leading actor who can
sing. Widow. Retired from The Austrian Imperial Navy. Intellectual,
highly disciplined. Stern but loving father to 7 children.

The Mother Abbess: Female. 50+ yrs. Soprano. Head of the covent. A
leader. Authoritative but kind. A good leading singer/actress. Strong
Mezzo to a high "A Flat". Operatic Soprano.

Baroness Elsa Schraeder: Female. 35-45 yrs. Elegant actress who has wit,
style and breeding. Confident singer.

Max Detweiller: Male. 40's-50's. Baritone. Principal character role. Has
an ironic wit, which masks the sentimental side of him. In the end,
risks everything for the lives of the Von Trapp family. Confident
singer. Light Baritone.

Liesel Von Trapp: Female. 17-22 yrs. Soprano. Eldest daughter of the Von
Trapp family. 16 going on 17. Ingenue. Becoming a woman. Must be out of
school. Legit music theatre voice. Good singer and dancer/mover. 

Rolf Gruber: Male. 18-23 yrs. Tenor. Romantic interest to Liesel. 17
going on 18. Gets caught up in the Nazi movement and turns on Liesel and
her family. Good actor, singer &; dancer/mover. Vocal range: Tenor with
musical theatre sound.

Franz: Male. 48-60 yrs. Butler to the Von Trapp family. Experienced
actor required. Needs to keep a tune. May cover one of the leads
(possibly even the Captain) so must keep a tune.

Frau Schmidt: Female. 50's+. Needs to sing fairly well. Legit music
theatre voice or classical voice. Housekeeper to the Von Trapp family.
Experienced actress required. A character. May also cover one of the
leads. Also plays a nun in the opening sequence.

Sister Margaretta: Female. 50+yrs. Featured Role. Legit music theatre
voice or classical voice. Mistress of Postulates. May also cover one of
the leads.

Sister Berthe: Female. 28-55 yrs. Featured Role. Legit music theatre
voice or classical voice. Mistress of Novices, a character, may also
cover leads.

Sister Sophia: Female. 23-45 yrs. Featured Role. Legit music theatre
voice  or classical voice. A character, may also cover leads.

Fraulein Schweiger/Baroness Elberfeld: Female. 40-50's yrs.Featured
Ensemble Role. Legit music theatre voice or classical voice. Good
singer. A character, may also cover one of the leads.

Herr Zeller: Male. 40's-50's. Featured Ensemble Role. Villain. Character
actor. Any shape or size. Keeps a tune, could cover other roles.

Frau Zeller: Female. 30's-40's. Ensemble Role. Legit music theatre voice
or classical voice. Villain. Character actor. Any shape or size. Also
plays a nun.

Admiral Von Schrieber: Male. 50's+ yrs. Ensemble Role. Aristocratic
type. A patrician. Also covers other roles. A great character.

Ensemble/Swing Roles: Male & Female. 19-50's+ yrs. Various male and
female roles to play neighbors, servants, nuns, novices, postulants,
priests, cleric, nazis and contestants in festival concert. All age
ranges required. Ensemble will be required to understudy Principal and
Featured roles. 

Equity members will be seen first at all open audition calls. Equity
members cast in this production will be engaged under an Equity form of
contract. CAEA members: please bring your membership card to the
audition.
