BILL 71 IS MAKING PROGRESS THIS WEEK!
----------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Equity members,

In June 2013, Ontario’s child performers protection bill (Bill 71 Protecting Child Performers Act) passed a crucial vote. At that time, we asked for your help to spread the word and to contact your local provincial representatives at Queen’s Park to make Bill 71 a priority for them. Because of your participation, and the advocacy of Equity and ACTRA Toronto, Bill 71 has made significant progress.

Today, Equity’s Executive Director Arden R. Ryshpan will be presenting to the Standing Committee on General Government in support of Bill 71 and child performers in Ontario. As a performer since the age of 6, Arden will draw upon personal, first-hand experiences to help highlight the demand for increased legislation protecting child performers.

Once again, Equity thanks you for your help in promoting the importance of Bill 71. Your support has helped Bill 71 taking significant steps towards becoming law in Ontario. Special thanks to MPP Paul Miller for introducing and standing behind Bill 71 all the way. This type of legislation could lay the groundwork for expanded legislation for child performers across Canada.
