Ethno-cultural mandate or ethno-cultural casting statement: As always, the
Shaw Festival encourages submissions from Artists of all ethno-cultural
backgrounds.

SHAW FESTIVAL THEATRE MANDATE: The Shaw Festival is a theatre company
inspired by the work of Bernard Shaw. We produce plays from and about his
era and contemporary plays that share Shaw's provocative exploration of
society and celebration of humanity.

NOTICE OF GENERAL AUDITIONS FOR THE SHAW FESTIVAL 2017 SEASON

ALL AUDITIONS TO BE HELD AT: Mirvish Studios – 5th Floor – 284 King Street
West, Toronto, ON

Equity members will be seen first at all open audition calls. Equity members
cast in the season will be engaged under an Equity contract. CAEA members:
please bring your membership card to the audition.

REQUIREMENTS:

EQUITY DRAMA: 2 Contrasting monologues. (Please select at least 1 monologue
from the Shaw Festival’s original mandate period - plays written between
1856 and 1950).

EQUITY MUSICAL: 1 Monologue (It is strongly suggested that the monologue be
from the Shaw Festival’s mandate Period.) PLUS 2 contrasting songs,
preferably an up tempo and a ballad. At least 1 song should be a traditional
musical theatre piece – i.e. Gershwin, Cole Porter, Coward, Rodgers and
Hart, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Lowe, etc. The second song need
not be traditional musical theatre – it need not even be a musical theatre
song – it should be a piece that shows your strengths and your vocal range.
Please note: we may only hear one song.

An Accompanist will be provided for musical auditions. Please bring your
music in the key that you will be singing in. The accompanist will not be
able to transpose it for you.

NON-EQUITY DRAMA: 1 Monologue (It is strongly suggested that the monologue
be from the Shaw Festival’s original mandate period – plays written between
1856 and 1950).

NON-EQUITY MUSICAL: There may be two auditions. The first audition is for
Music Director Paul Sportelli. The second, which is a callback, will be for
Tim Carroll, Eda Holmes and Paul Sportelli. 1 Monologue (It is strongly
suggested that the monologue be from the Shaw Festival’s mandate Period.)
PLUS 2 contrasting songs, preferably an up tempo and a ballad. At least 1
song should be a traditional musical theatre piece – i.e. Gershwin, Cole

COMMENTS: Applicants selected for an audition will be contacted to confirm
an appointment. WE WILL NOT CONTACT ANYONE WHO HAS NOT BEEN SELECTED FOR AN
APPOINTMENT.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS: We require that you only submit yourself/your
client(s) TO THE ONE CATEGORY you/your client(s) feel best suited for.

Agents, please also reinforce with your clients not to submit themselves if
you are submitting them. This duplication causes confusion and limits the
care and time we can devote to all your clients. Again, duplicated
submissions may result in an artist being disqualified from consideration.

We are not accepting recorded or Skype audition requests.

We are only accepting audition requests for the dates as indicated. on
Casting Workbook. If you will not be available please do not submit.

We are only accepting audition requests from artists who are legally able to
work in Canada.

All submissions must indicate if the artist is Equity or Non-Equity.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE:
NO LATER THAN FRIDAY JULY 15, 2016 AT 6:00PM EASTERN STANDARD TIME.
Submissions received after this date and time will not be considered.
