Based on the international best-selling novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns is
the story of three generations of women bound together by marriage, family,
and a secret past in war-ravaged Afghanistan. The Grand is searching for the
Canadian cast of American Conservatory Theater’s (ACT) production.

There is a possibility of a revival in another theatre(s) in the fall of
2018.

Please submit through Casting Workbook if possible. Email submissions will
also be accepted. Please do not submit multiple times.

Roles (more detail can be found on www.grandtheatre.com)
Age ranges may vary as the play spans 25 years.

Laila: In love with Tariq, but eventually becomes Rasheed’s second wife.

Mariam: Married to Rasheed. Becomes the play’s most powerful example of
suffering and strength.

Rasheed: Married to Mariam and Laila.

Nana: Mariam’s mother.

Tariq: Best friends with Laila as children and become lovers as teenagers.

Jalil: Mariam’s father.

Babi: Laila’s father.

Aziza: Laila and Tariq’s daughter who is forced to live in an orphanage by
Rasheed. Can be a young adult that can play 9-12yrs.

Zalmai: Rasheed and Laila’s son. London-area children will be given
priority.

Equity members will be seen first at all open audition calls. Equity members
cast in this production will be engaged under an Equity form of contract.
